VAT is value added tax I assume? Wow, 23% on every thing?  Rush Limbaugh is RIGHT!!!

Yes, there are no exemptions in EU.

There may be lower tax for some things like books or basic groceries, but it cannot be lower than 10 %.

In Croatia, we have 10 % on books and tourist services, I think.

It can! 19%/7% in Germany.
EU lower limits are 15%/5%, no upper limit (but in practice 25%).

You are right.

At this moment, there is no VAT here on some items like bread, milk and medicines, but it will have to be introduced once (and if) we enter EU.

I am proud to live in the country that has the highest taxes in the world.

http://www.export.by/en/?act=news&mode=view&id=12426

Income taxes: 12 % on the first approx 500 EUR of monthly income; 25 % on the next approx 1000 EUR of monthly income, 40 % on everything above.

Then, 2 or 4 % special tax on remaining net income.

Sounds incredible? It is incredible!!!

p.s. AND 20 % mandatory pension fund (only 5 % is for your future pension), AND 15 % mandatory health service contribution.

Sounds even more incredible? :) :( :(  ???

Axy, all I can say is WOW! sorry to hear about that pension racket in particular. Hopefully your health contribution gets you some decent services. I understand some EU countries have excellent H.C, and some do not..

Hardly- That sounds like a pretty good rate for comprehensive insurance.

Zero dollars a year.  My People 50 2t is considered a moped by law and therefore needs no registration or insurance to operate it.   ;D

Get into an accident with a BMW, Mercedes, etc at your fault and tell me how your opinion is or even more hit a pedestrian.

For those that dont have insurance is ignorant. Its a motorized vehicle. There are children playing that can run  out, accidents that happen, etc. Insurance is so cheap for these small cc engines. Is it really worth it? Hit a pedestrian = automatically thousands of dollars in medical and even more so long term lawsuits.   Its a gamble

There is something to the argument about having insurance coverage.

For the $95 a year I go with the full coverage from Progressive.

Everyone sues around here for everything.
