Zero dollars a year.  My People 50 2t is considered a moped by law and therefore needs no registration or insurance to operate it.   ;D

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body. But rather to skid in broadside , thoroughly used up , totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!!"

Germany:
(Liablility insurance can be calculated only, i.e. with huk24.de.)

"Kleinkraftrad" (moped, no tax/registration/inspection).
50cc scooter constant 50-75 € / year depending on drivers age (older = cheaper).

"Leichtkraftrad" (125cc 11kW small motorcycle, no tax, registration for 50 € is valid until owner or district change, inspection for 50 € is valid 2 years)
scooter >80km/h between 20 and 80 € depending on the driver (proven accident free, experience).
scooter <=80kph 3-4x more expensive, because 16year old may drive them.
motorcycles 1.5-2x more expensive than scooters.

"Kraftrad" (motorcycle, 1.84 € tax for every 25cc displacement, i.e. 37 € for 500cc; registration/inspection same as Leichtkraftrad)
In addition to Leichtkraftrad the insurance depends on engine power. Disproportional rising premium if >= 100 hp.
500cc scoot 40-120 €.

Wow! I call this beureaucracy! But it is fair, and shows attention to details.

Nothing required in Maryland - but I do have full insurance since it is cheap anyway.

And the insurance company said they only offer full coverage on a small number of scooter model - Kymco's Agility being among them.

In Maryland you pay sales tax on the purchase of a vehicle when you register it.

Can't register a 50 cc scoot in Maryland so don't pay sales tax on it either.

Works for me!

In Maryland you pay sales tax on the purchase of a vehicle when you register it.

VAT is 23 % here for every good or service purchased.
We had sales tax 15 years ago, but throughout Europe sales tax is replaced in the past 10-20 years with VAT.
