X-Town 300i Engine Oil Change
« on: June 19, 2021, 03:04:39 PM »
Time rolled around for my second inter-service oil change so I decided today was the day.  Remembered the drain plug is a 17mm bolt (thank you John Grinsel) and where to access it.  All told the entire job was probably 15 minutes?  A vast improvement on the first time I did this bit of a job.  The manual is a bit vague on the capacity for the 10-40W oil to fill up stating:
Full capacity: 1.1 L (1.16 US qt)
Exchange capacity: 0.9L(0.95 US qt)

After leaving it to drain fully for about 10 minutes, I put the sump plug back in and decided to go right down the middle with a measured 1 litre of oil poured in.  Guess what, spot on the top of the full mark on the dipstick.  Will no doubt need checking and possibly topping up in 100 miles or so, but one litre seems a pretty good start point?

I worry that some day I'll get so busy with the clean up......that I'll forget to put the new oil in.

Yeah, very moody concept Stig, but I figured we could all visualise that and moreover I ain't about to teach a load of Grannies how to suck eggs!  Plus I gave up smoking 30+ years ago.

Did you remove the second plug to check the factory filter/screen?

Yes Mike I did and it was as clean as the proverbial whistle!  The spare screen I bought may not be needed for some 000's of miles?

Further Oil Change completed today.  It's now taking almost as long to get the tools out, then clean them and put them away as it takes to drain & refill the oil!!  That's as it should be though I guess.

I think is Kymco translation means no filter change and with filter change.

I put about 0.95l in this time Karl and that seemed just right. Maybe my imagination, but the engine does sound smoother.

ALWAYS smoother, more power and rides better after both changing oil and washing! Waxing makes it go faster and smell better, too! Har, har!

On my scoots the larger amount is needed when refilling a shattered engine after it has grenaded.
The lesser figure refills a healthy engine.... or box of gears.
Apparently a bit of oil hides from that drain plug.....and the service writer knows this🙃

Yes, as I was disassembling and reassembling my S200 engine I noticed that a lot of oil stays behind, especially if you’re only draining through the oil screen. Draining through the actual drain plug will remove quite a bit more oil.
