450i electrical starting problem
« on: June 19, 2021, 11:15:07 PM »
Hoping someone out there can help . My 450i is approx 3 years old and has recently developed an intermittent starting fault . when you turn on the ignition you hear the fuel pump  run and the dash lights up .  When you try to crank the engine the dash lights go out ,and no crank . release the key and the dash lights come back on .  I originally suspected the battery ,so put it on charge . After this ,it fired into life .However ,the next day it did the same thing . So instead of charging the battery I attached a fluke multi meter with MIN/MAX recording and discovered the battery was only dropping from 12.6 volts to 12.1 volts  when this fault occured .  I spoke to my dealer and his mechanic and they poo poo'd my diagnosis and insisted it was the battery . So I shelled out 140 bucks for a new one,and guess what ? It didnt fix the problem . Has anyone else come across this problem . ? Any help would be much appreciated .   cheers  Nick

Bad contact somewhere probably the main ground point.

Too bad about your dealer poo-pooing. So typical....
