scooters dominating Facebook Marketplace
« on: July 26, 2021, 10:26:36 PM »
wondering if my area is unique or not?... I regularly check out Facebook marketplace for the motorcycles for sale (using the wife's log in, I'm not on facebook).

Today is a perfect example..18 of the first 24 listings are scooters...and that ratio continues on.. I double checked that I don't have some sort of scooter finding filter on..I don't..

Are you guys seeing the same thing?

Not looking but not surprising. Gas gets any more expensive (and it will if the stupid spending and printing don't stop) this will turn around and small displacement anything will be hard to find!

Never heard of facebook marketplace. But then know nothing about facebk.
Sounds like the murder for hire greg's list, but with selfies?

Stig, it's the new Craigslist...ever since Craigslist started charging $5 to place a vehicle for sale ad all the vehicle ads (well, not all, but a large percentage) have moved to Facebook Marketplace (it's free). it's like the classified ads of facebook. Very few posts are cross posted on both craigslist and FM...our local criagslist for motorcycles (and scooters) is almost completely dead.

I just found it odd that so many scooters are for sale..used to be there was the usual random assortment of Chinese no name scoots for sale and little else other than Harleys. Now there are Vespas, Hondas, Burgmans, all kinds of scoots.

Prices are high, too. Sellers market.

I don't normally look at FB marketplace but just took a look after reading this thread.  There are no scooters listed under motorcycles for sale near me.  I looked under scooters for sale and found a few but most are not that close to me.  Scooters just never really caught on around here.

I believe a lot of the large cities FB dominants the classifieds,  in rural areas Craigslist still is being used despite the charge.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

I have had a number of people tell me they bought a scooter due to my ride reports but most of those people are not local.

Plenty of motorcycles on FB market place here, just not many scooters.

I know for a fact I sold two new LIKE200i's to a neighbor couple.
And then at least two Liberty's "because" of my photos on the Vespa forum site.
The folks told me so.

I have never bought or sold anything on FB Marketplace.  The last 5 motorcycles that I sold were through the Adventure Rider Forums.  In every case it was hassle free and the first person to look at the bikes bought them.  I sold my Kymco Super 8 to a friend that I met on the Bamarides forum.

Facebook Marketplace is indeed free, but also filled with the worst kind of buyers and I avoid it like the plague.

Thirty messages asking "is it still available" followed by three people who arrange to come around, you wait in for them and they invariably never show.

Not that I hold a grudge or anything :D

Tried to sell my partner's old car on there recently and decided after a couple of weeks of being mucked about I'd rather scrap it. Thankfully our Post lady bought it whilst it sat awaiting the knackers yard.

Tried selling an A-liner camper years ago and wound up dealing with this clown in nearby Kentucky. He was after all sorts of concessions including meeting half-way to see IF he really wanted to buy. Limited patience long gone told him the price was set, it was not going anywhere on speculation, take it or leave it but all conversations were OVER! He took it.

That's been my lad's experience too, so as a result I also avoid FB Market Place and stick with eBay!  That said, out of curiosity I did look on there for scooters and there is a good selection!

Selling / or buying anything VW.....highly recommend www.thesamba.com
Folks are seriously into veedubs there.
I had them coming from out of state, with trailers, making offers.
(Sambas were the early 23 window deluxe transporters. )
