Neil - changing topics...I see in your signature that a previous bike was the Kawi GPZ900R...is that the bike made famous by Tom Cruise in Top Gun?  Always loved that bike!

every time I open this thread and see the first pic....I just think "give me 5 minutes with a clean microfiber towel and a bottle of detail spray..please..."

I invite you to come on over to West Des Moines then. You can bring your cleaning supplies and detail my Burgman. It really needs it since there hasn't been any rain lately to ride in... that's what I call a drive through bike wash.

Certainly was Hawk, same colour too - gloss black!  Beast of a machine, first genuine 160 mph bike I ever owned; not that I ever saw that on the clock, about the fastest I ever glimpsed was about 140 on the straight at a Castle Donington track day!  Big downside (bearing in mind I rode 365 days a year tback then), was the notorious carb icing issue.  It didn't even need sub-zero temperatures.  Anything below about 5c if the humidity was high, you'd have it bog down and stall, bad enough on back roads, but accelerating down the slip road onto a motorway it was positively murderous!  So in 1990 after about 18 months of ownership I traded it in for the first of 2 FJ1200's - Chalk & Cheese!

I wasn't aware of the carb icing issues..that could be problematic! Do you have any old pics of the bike?

Neil - I subscribe to Classic Motorcycle Mechanics, a British publication, and a favorite section of mine each month is "The way we were..." where readers send in old pics of them on their classic (anywhere from 60's through 90's) bike.

You may qualify with any number of the bikes you've owned!
