Hello,

I'm new here.  I have a 2013 Honda PCX 150, and was trying to get an XMAX (I ride 2 up a lot), but none were available.    I  found a really nice downtown 300i online last week and decided to pick it up, it's a 2015 with only 600 miles.   Is there anything I need to upgrade on it to help it's reliability?  So far, I read to not fill up the tank too full, and how to do the TSP/ISC reset if needed.

I'd do an oil change.
And since you'll be riding two up a lot - you'll both feel better if you replace those 6+ yr old tires.
And....welcome to the forum! .

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Yes, welcome to the forum!

What Stig said plus, the DT300i here (two, actually. One was stolen and wrecked) has been the most reliable touring bike. A good quality battery is a must. I would unplug EVERY wiring connector and apply silicone dielectric grease to EVERY female connection and plug back in.

I fill my tank to the tab every time but then I have vented my gas cap to avoid the "Stall of Shame" when the vent valve sticks shut.

Change gear oil. Check/set valve clearance.

TPS/ISC reset:
1. Ignition OFF, throttle closed, run/stop switch RUN
2. Throttle wide open, turn ignition ON (no start), hold open for 10 seconds and then allow throttle to slam shut.
3. Ignition OFF.
4. Turn ignition ON, observe normal self-test dance to completion then either start and ride or just turn off.

As said above, and also:

1) oil change - use good quality mineral, semi-synthetic or synthetic
2) gear oil change - SAE90 or 80W-90
3) WD-40 on switches - e.g. ignition cover, blinker selector, brake lever switch
4) Adjust seat cable tension - this is to ensure the seat doesn't become stuck closed
5) Headlights - use long-life H8 globes e.g. Philips or Osram

on a 6 year old, new to you scooter I'd definitely change the brake fluid as well as take the calipers apart to clean, inspect and make sure the slide pins are lubed well (they're likely in good shape but you never assume). A coolant change would also be on my list.

Starting with all fresh fluids is always a good idea with any used vehicle.

1st is to make sure the seat cable allows you to open it, adjust it well

2nd  carry a second 9-12A battery with you, quick connect cable (increase charge cable fuse to 15A in case you need to quick boost)

3rd carry 10mm wrench

I owned a DT300 for a while and noticed two common problems: the seat has latches on both sides and this causes opening problems when both sides are not perfectly adjusted. An easy fix is to remove the bracket from the underside of the seat that is not involved with the dash light. One latch is fine, two is overkill, not needed, and future trouble.

The second problem is the brake switches burning out so that one day you can't start the bike because when you squeeze one of the brake handles the scooter won't crank. Apparently the switches can't handle the current from the incandescent brake bulb. Change the brake bulb to an LED, which draws much less current, and eliminate the possible problem.

Based on purchase of new 2019 and 13,000 miles---just make sure brakes release---carry OEM drive belt---ride and follow Kymco maint, suggestions.  They can be very reliable---6 years old...try fresh battery!

haha, mine already does the brake switch thing.   I think the its the left lever you have to squeeze if you want to start the bike.   I thought it was designed like that lol.   I will take a look at removing one of the seat latches when it gets warmer.   and I think it's time for a new battery too.

My 2013 Downtown has been completely reliable (currently at 14,200 miles).  Coolant gets changed every two years, so yours is ready. Its an easy job. At 600 miles, its ready for its break-in oil change. If you overfill, it will leak out the bottom, but its no problem otherwise.
