First 'sit' of the new People150i
« on: August 03, 2021, 08:24:16 PM »
Out that end of town - thought I'd check to see if my dealer had the new People.
Very surprised to see 2 of them sitting on the floor near a pair of the 300's.

Saw the 'made in China' sticker near the gear oil fill. At $3499, for front ABS, twin discs and front/rear LEDs - it would have to be from China.

My thoughts after inspecting it and sitting on it:

I did not feel crowded (as I do on the Xtown 300's!!) on the People, though the room for feet is less than the Liberty, and the LIKE.
Fit and finish looked good. Put a pair of City Grip II's on and you'd be all set!
I like that it is still air-cooled simple.

If these had been around when I was shopping for a big wheel scooter 4 years ago - I would have looked hard at them - when I was buying my Piaggio Liberty150i.

They look 'tall' and a bit awkward to my eye -  like the SH Hondas - compared to the sleek Italian design of the Liberty.
But you do get another rear shock and a disc and a valve on the Kymco compared to the Liberty - at $500 more than the Liberty.

Piaggio and Kymco have been making big wheel scooters for decades - so they probably have  them well sorted by 2022.

Definitely felt crowded on the Kymco 300 - that seat takes no prisoners of tall guys! Not so the People's ergos. The 300's seem huge to me. And are built like they should have a 400 in them...like a Burgman.

Also....
I had the salesman open the seat, and pointed to the case snd screen on the sales info sheet hanging on the scooter.
He thought screen and case were "avail. accessories"...I suggested that Kymco advertised them as being standard equipment.
He made a call, came back and said "you're right!"
He went off to look in shipping crates.....for the missing bits😊

That's the first "real" picture I've seen of the new People. Wish you'd posted more of them!

Perhaps if I'd found the colors more inspiring? 😊

Compared to my 2018 Like 150i this scooter has gained around 20 pounds and a thousand dollars on the price tag.  Instead of two wheel ABS it has only front ABS.  The Like came in a choice of four colors, the People two.

I think I'll keep my Like for a while longer.

Yes, but the People has the improved ride of a big wheel scooter😊
This type of scooter is SO popular in European cities for a reason, I think.

I hope this scooter sells well here in the USA but the price tag is about the same as the Honda PCX and Yamaha Zuma 125.  Will people pay as much for a Kymco as they would for a Yamaha or Honda?  Of course if you want a small big wheel scooter then Yamaha and Honda don't give you that option.

Might be the best to wait it out, then buy used for half or third the price, 'cause Kymco has a steeper fatigue rate.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I'm 6' Tom and yes if I was 4" taller I'd not have bought the XTown.  Also, that long affected tail on the top of the "T" which runs over the "own"?  A real PIA as it's not sufficiently glued and bends back every time you wash the scooter!  Grrr
Regards & ride safe,
Neil
