Hey question for u all... I was told to use 5w-40 synthetic. Today my oil was really low and the auto store didn't have the oil type so the Rep advised that 5w30 would be just as good. I trusted his opinion and refilled the oil. My oil light turned off after. I have not cleaned/ replaced the oil filter. I don't even know if there is a filter to replace. I just got my kymco people 50. Can anyone tell me if there is a filter and where I can find it? What oil type do u guys use? Also, can putting  5w30 cause the bike to stall?

I just got my kymco people 50

...assuming this is a ...4-stroke???

..if so, you'll be just fine, but i didn't know the 4t had an oil light...


..if your scoot is a 2-stroke you need to STOP RIDING!!...go ahead and drain that oil from the reservoir and fill it with ANY 2-cycle engine oil...

 :o :o o my hope its 4 stroke. I use 15/40 and I have been happy with that.yes its hard to find at times but worth it.

if you have a container under the seat next to your fuel that says "OIL" you have a 2 stroke scooter and can cause serious damage to the engine by running crankcase oil instead of 2 stroke engine oil.  2 stroke engines depend on burning oil to lubricate and cool themselves.  4 strokes (like your passenger car in the driveway) have 4 stroke engines with a sump (oil pan) beneath the engine that stores oil that gets lapped up by the rotation of the engine crankshaft, all that oil is used for is lubrication, nothing else.  It does not get anywhere near the combustion chamber and should not burn.  In a two stroke the oil is injected into the engine and burned with the fuel to create a mixture of oil and fuel.

I hope this helps you understand the differences between 2 & 4 stroke engines.

fyi my tuning friend suggested 10w 40 for my 4st.
Im usually on a bicycle, so for me, this thing is hauling ass!

Hey everyone sorry i haven't responded computer died finally its fixed. I have a people 50 year 2002. Not sure if its 2 or 4 stroke. But its been running great so I didn't worry. I'm going to change it again but will use a 2 stroke oil this time. Any recommendations?  Does this scoot have a filter?? If so where is it?

Hi, NewScooterRider, glad you got your computer fixed!

Maybe this time the rep at the auto parts store will have the oil you tried to get the last time. Look under that seat and find out if you have a 2 stroke or not. If you can't tell that rep at the auto parts store may know. Once you find out what model you have you can check the Links to Manuals section on the forum here for a manual for your scoot. It will have pics of everything on your scoot.

If you have a 2002 people 50 it is a 2 stroke . You should be using a 2-stroke oil . You don"t have a filter but there is a mesh screen for the oil resovoir . I hope the oil sales rep did not ruin your motor but you should drain the resovior , replace the screen filter and put a proper 2 stroke oil designed for oil injected 2 stroke motors in it as soon as possible  . Synthetic is best , I use amsoil Interceptor 2 stroke oil . Good luck .
