all right..got everything hooked back up..idled for a while to make sure nothing was leaking...and went for a 13 mile ride.

The gas leaking problem is solved. I don't smell any gas at all and the underside of the carb is dry..not wet with gas like it has been.

All signs point to the float being too high (and the needle tip looked a bit worn, too)

With the new, bigger main jet it does feel like the mid range is improved. From about 20-40, when I give it the beans it really seems to pull strong.  i do only have about 500 miles riding experience with the old jet..but the new one seems to be a keeper.

Here's hoping for a cool down (100+ degree heat index today..tomorrow more of the same).
Hooray!

yes, I feel  a lot better about the carb now that it's rebuilt and not leaking. No more smelling gas when I park it!

Now, if i can only track down the source of the burning oil smell......

Maybe a valve cover gasket leaking oil on the exhaust manifold?

the crazy thing is the motor is perfectly clean..no visible oil leaks anywhere. I'll lay down next to the scoot with a flashlight and look all over it and i can't see any leaks...but i can definitely smell it.

There is grease inside the variator (no grease around the sliders, but grease on the inside where the variator slides over the crankshaft) and grease in the same place on the driven pulley. wondering if some is slinging off inside the cvt and cooking?
I'm not quite motivated enough at this point to pull some plastics and the cvt cover to check..I'm sure I'll pull it at the end of the riding season.

With all the work you've done I'm wondering if some greese  or oil is just burning off? Have you taken it on any long rides?

I went for a 41 mile ride yesterday..mix of in town and 2 lane highway. I can definitely smell something when I get back in the garage...but at least it's not gas, anymore!
