Any new kymco have disk brakes front and rear?
« on: August 15, 2021, 03:06:31 PM »
Looking to upgrade my 2013 movie. absolutely love it. Just wanted to see if anything equals it in the 150cc range. Led tail lights and dual piston calipers front and rear. Drove many hours to go see the new 2022 Honda ADV150 and despite all the pictures and the Honda website it did not have rear disc.  Really nice to have 2 perfectly equal hydraulic master cylinders  braking both wheels. Does the bet and win have dual disk? Thanks!!

In the 150 range - the LIKE150i has two discs - and two wheel ABS.

The S150.  Kinda looking at those.  The Piaggio Liberty is similar and well thought of too

Ah, the Liberty's (50 and 150's) have a drum rear brake - front wheel only ABS.
And yes they are well thought of.....see justgottascoot.com review and youtube's by Robot (though, he is trying to sell them for his dealer)
Check out owner's comments of the Liberty on https://modernvespa.com/forum/ .
I have been reading the comments and youtubes for the Liberty for nearly 5 years - have yet to see any serious* concerns. Not too surprising since Piaggio has made over 900,000 of them over the years.

*I hated the plastic gas cap - so bought a nice red billet aluminum one on ebay for $12.

My 2008 Lambretta Uno 150cc (Herchee Adly) has disc brakes front and rear but no ABS.   On a Scooter this small drum rear brakes should have pleanty of stopping power, just antiquated technology.  The majority of the braking is done by the front brake.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

It would be interesting to see Stig perform a non scientific braking test with both scoots. Say a 30 mph stop at the same point in your ride with both the Liberty and Like. Maybe repeat a couple of times to see if there is a clear pattern on the Liberty outbraking the Like?..and by how much?

I have owned 5 scooters including an Aprilia Sport City 250 with triple disc brakes.  I thought the brakes on all five scooters worked well but the dual discs with ABS on my Like 150i are the best IMO.

I encourage all to try the stock brakes on a first generation LIKE200i~!
I've only had the 4 scoots listed below - but IN THE DRY the best (smoothest & easiest to modulate to a near skid) are the brakes on a LIKE200i - with its 4 pistons and F&R braided brake lines - it is a wonder! Feels like 'power brakes'.
I think those braided brake lines are a primo, stock, addition to the scooter.

To your comparison between the Liberty's skinny front Angel and ABS modulator and the fatter front City Grip of the non-ABS LIKE200i.....

Riding upright, in the wet, and a deer hops out in front of me - I like the Liberty:  Just mindlessly squeeze the snot out of the front brake and let the ABS do its thing to try to save our bacon.

In the dry - pretty sure the twin discs of the LIKE200i would stop me quicker.

I say all of this while considering the speeds at which I ride. My tires are firmly on the ground.
I think I've seen 55MPH maybe twice in the past three years & @400-600 rides. (I don't count my rides - but I could check my photos. Take a pic every ride)
Ripping along at 60MPH and you hammer the brakes that back tire probably has next to no grip going on down there. But I wouldn't know, I'm a scooter rider not a frustrated bike racer :)

I've had two coffees, a BR break.... and a cookie - no longer remember what the question was.

Ride safe....
