Roosevelt Knox over on Kymco Riders of America (facebook) has 48000 MILES on his 2018 xtown with ORIGINAL BELT!

I can think of a few high speed up-hill turning intersections where it would be great fun to find that I have, at last, pushed my belt to the breaking point.

To paraphrase others - most any new CVT belt is cheaper than the E.R.

Impressive  longevity for a belt but like Stig the thought of walking, no way in hell I'm pushing that 500 anywhere.

It's worth it to me to have fresh tires, belt, battery and wear items for piece of mind.  I'm comfortable with any Scooter/Motorcycle I own to set off on a cross country trip as far as reliability.

Others just buy  a new  scooter every few  years for reliability.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Stig I look at a lot of things in life like that now. I've been frugal all my life but now look at hiring high risk things done is far cheaper then medical bills.

That's what John Grinsel does! Is not cheap and sentimental like me! I just was always skeptical about 12000 miles then replace! Thought it was way too short.

With minimal care the longivity of these little engines is impressive.  When I bought a parts scooter in Oklahoma  (People 250) it shows 65k on the clock. The guy that had it said it had been in a shed for a few years.  Within a hour after getting it home I had it running and drove it around the block. So much stuff is worn at that milage I don't know if it would make financial since to rebuild, even the brake rotors are paper thin.

Then again winters are long and I get bored watching TV so might look for used parts on ebay and put it back on the road.  The body and paint are in very good condition.

I beleive John G would run his machines up to 50k miles in the past. He sold his 300 early.

Even at 50k these machines are serviceable to get many more miles from. The issue for me is I can pick up extremely low mileage machines for less money then the cost of a rebuild.

This year the tide is turning and used prices have gone up to the break even point on rebuilding or low mileage used.  I have also found I'm  fond of certain models such as the Grandvista  and People S.  The Xicting  series is a excellent road scooter but very large and heavy.

I had a China belt on my GV250 fail at 1000 miles. I have had good luck so far with Gates at around $35. Gates has been making belts in the USA forever.

mjr(Mike) is repairing a Burgman650 transmission and he said the belt, which is OK, is more like a chain; it has links and is not at all like the belts on Kymcos. It has 60K miles on it! If you figure ours need replacing at 12K then $450 is not an outrageous price.

I used the eBay seller that Stig recommended and bought a Drive Belt and Dr. Pulley Slider weights for my People GT 300i on Friday, and I received them today (Tuesday). 2 business days from Taiwan is pretty good IMO.


Including shipping fees the OEM Belt was $138.68 and the Dr. Pulley Sliders were $84.93.
Not the deal of a lifetime, but not a rip off either.

138.68 in USD? That's pretty good considering the global situation.

I did realize after I ordered that the price for the Dr. Pulley was a little high. However with the convenience of getting everything from one vendor and the quick shipping time I am not going to lose any sleep over it.
