800 mile round trip
« on: September 02, 2021, 03:13:52 PM »
Well, at 90 years of age I performed my Last Hurrah. Drove the Super 8 from Birch Bay Wa to the eastern side of WA to Spokane and Back. Took all the 2 lane roads. Driving on the shoulder to let faster vehicles pass. Luckily, Washington State has great shoulders wide enough and clean enough to allow such craziness. Though  there was some spots not wide enough that didn't allow me to use the shoulder. Thru the entire 800 miles there was only one spot that had any junk, a small branch with leaves on it that I was able to avoid handily. Drove over the Northern Cascades which is a twisties delight and past all the wheat growing fields of Eastern WA. My daughter and daughter in law fretted  the entire trip. But my 71 years of 2 wheeling experience brought me home safely. Kept them aware of my progress with with texts at each fuel fill up that was quite often due to that 1.5 Gallon fuel tank.
And now, as I sit at at my PC, I wonder if I will still be around next year to repeat that most enjoyable Craziness ???? Maybe with a bigger Scoot to handle all the speed limit's and not have to to pull over, eh?

Man after my own heart! I'm just a kid at 80 but good for YOU! I WAS gonna say they should fret being three up on anything with two wheels but then you said you kept them posted! Har, har!

Only One who knows when you going to be called up. No such thing as luck, chance, probability, etc. Keep on livin' as long as you don't get lost or disoriented. Me? I tie a string to the front porch and unroll it during the trip. Then roll it up following it home! Hey, it works! Did that when I was a Navy Navigator with a bigger ball of string! Har, har!

Keep us posted because stories like yours keep the rest of us going!

Good for you!!  *From another WA geezer!   Ride on!   Riding HWY 20 is suppose to be beautiful and you get to bypass that horrible windy Gorge area.

@Geezyrideer, it's just great to read your adventure. Family shouldn't worry too much. Your juvenile foolishness keeps you healthy. Congrats.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

It’s all been said!  Well done and thanks for giving us all something to aspire to.

I may have recounted this tale before on here, but decades ago queuing to get off the ferry for the Isle of Man ferry for the TT we spotted a guy in his 80’s disembarking on a 500 single Honda and I said to my buddy “I hope we’re still doing that at his age”. Well it won’t be long now! God willing.
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

@Neil, am still a rookie of 65 but sometimes same thoughts like yours come in my mind. Saw many years ago "really" old people when we toured Netherlands, Germanys nord, but this guys where for sure younger than I am now.

You're right @Ruffus I'm about to tip into my 70's and only hope that I'm still up for an Hurrah like that when/if I reach 90!  As my old T-Shirt used to say "You don't give up biking because you get old, you get old because you give up biking!"
Regards & ride safe,

Thanks for all the kind words Y'all. It's comments like that which keeps the old Geezy Rider going. Though my daughter frets over me she was eager to hear how the ride went. And going over those Cascade Mountains never get's old.
