9/11....Where & doing what - the moment you heard?
« on: September 09, 2021, 06:23:41 PM »
I was on a step ladder shooting drywall screws into metal studs for a new office I was  building in the Child Support Enforcement  building, Springfield, Ohio.
A lady nearby had a small radio softly playing in her cube...when the music was interrupted...
"A plane has hit one of the Trade Center towers in NYC!"

and of course... "it was a small plane"

Not long after...."Another plane has hit the second tower!"

Which no one believed. 'Stupid newscasters' exaggerating.'
At this point the county director put the news broadcasts over the buildings' PA system.

By the end of the work day the gas stations were clogged with cars and there were runs on all the grocery stores. By 6:00AM the next morning the gas stations were back to normal business. I stopped and filled up.
My wife watched it all at home, crying and holding our 1yr old daughter.

A local young lady was a stewardess on United Flight 175.

Early at Porter-Cable factory/warehouse in Jackson, TN for coffee before repairing forklifts. Cafeteria and break room had several TV's  scattered about all showing one tower smoke rolling and the second plane banking steeply to hit the second....

Recruiting station was turning away multitudes of retired, separated, discharged veterans volunteering for service.....more Marines than any other service.

I was in staff quarters at HMP Pentonville chatting to my Father on the phone, both watching the TV. We were speaking as the second plane hit, a day, event I will never ever forget. RIP all.

I was working the night shift and came home and went to bed.  When I got up around 1:00pm and turned on the TV is when I found out what had happened.

Was at work in my company's office where I was a database programmer and computer tech. We all heard about the first plane impact on the radio and turned on the TV in the boss's office to watch the coverage and then saw the second impact while watching. After the Pentagon crash and news of the 4th plane in PA and the collapse of both towers the boss called in to tell us all to go home for the day.

I was out in field delineating a large wetland project with GPS that I rented, when suddenly I lost all satellite signals, came back to office, found out about the twin towers, I thought maybe our satellite system was attacked as well, but called the vendor I rented the GPS from, their rooftop base station was working fine, just a glitch, reboot and it was working fine again with good PDOPs

Another thing I remember after 911 is the silence and no con-trails in the sky.  All commercial flights were grounded.

I was in the car with my mother; I believe she was driving me to school when it happened. All I can remember is she told me and my siblings to be quiet as she turned up the radio.

I was a student at the U S Air Force War College and had just sat down in the classroom before my first class of the day when someone walked in and said that a Cessna had flown into the World Trade Center.  So we turned on the TV and tuned in CNN and watched as the events unfolded.

Less than two months earlier all of the Navy and Marine students had gone to the Pentagon for a briefing.  The room where we had our briefings was where the plane hit the Pentagon.

Just recalled that I was friends with a married couple from France. They both were on their way to work at a book store near the towers. Borders,?, maybe. Store was destroyed that day. They moved back yo Paris. After the terrorist attacks there, they moved to a small French village and purchased a small grocery.
I suspect they're fine ....but they lost touch with me during our last administration.
