Touring on my Like 150i

I have done a lot of day rides on my like.  Some where as long as around 300 miles but I had not actually gone touring.  I define touring as riding somewhere and spending at least one night away from home.  I have hauled my bike places and done day rides from there but that's not really touring.  I finally changed that earlier this week with a 3 day 600 mile trip through three states on my Like.  I started my trip in Blue Ridge Georgia, rode through South Carolina and then to Saluda, North Carolina.  I was accompanied by a friend on his Vespa 250GTV.  We spent two nights in Saluda doing some local riding and then rode back.

   I'm jealous! Beautiful scenery and great weather. I have some of that here in New York, but only for about 6 months. The thing I really need though, is other scooter owners to ride with. Up here they're a rare breed. I don't know why. When I owned my Harley, I had plenty of folks to ride with. Now I see very few scooters. Honestly, for myself, I enjoy riding my scooter more than I ever did my Harley. Quieter, lighter, much easier to handle. Maybe it's because I'm older now (77), but I would never trade my scooter for a motorcycle.

Scooter owners are a rare breed down here as well.  Most of the other scooter owners I have found to ride with are people I met online on a couple of forums.  The Adventure rider forums has a very active scooter group.  There is also a small local forum that I have met quite a few other riders on.  I'll bet there are more scooter riders near you than you think.  There just aren't enough that you are likely to meet them by pure chance.

Klav - beautiful pics and scenery! I'm curious about the speeds you ride at on the scoot...what sort of speeds can you maintain on the 2 lane highways? All of my rural roads are 55 mph and I think i'd get run off the road on my S200, which is 55- 60 MPH full throttle, flat ground.

Top speed is just over 60 and it will cruise comfortably at around 55.  Most of the roads we rode on this trip were pretty twisty and the average speed of traffic was pretty low.  Most of the time there was little or no traffic anyway.  Even with the limited power of my scooter I am generally going faster than most of the cars and even many of the motorcycles.  My biggest issue wasn't keeping up with traffic, it was getting stuck behind slower traffic and not having enough power to safely pass.

It would be nice to have more power and speed but that would mean a bigger and heavier bike.  I do have faster bikes but for this trip and some of the extremely twisty roads we were on I was glad to be on my little 150. 

How much speed do you need on a road like this?
