AK 550 questions for current owners
« on: October 02, 2021, 08:51:13 PM »
Originally posted these questions on another thread but figured they would be better served in a dedicated thread here...

Curious to know from current owners...
I've watch several un-crating videos and all of them show opening the seat to take several items out including the battery which is not installed in the AK from the factory.
HOW do they get the seat open without the battery being connected?
I'm sure the seat is latched closed in the crate. Or is it?
CAN the seat be opened without turning the scooter on or having the battery connected?
I know the control knob freely spins when the scooter is off so that won't unlatch the seat.

AND

Just read something on another forum in the UK where I am not a member about that AK 550 fob.
Would like a current owner to verify this as well...
There was mention about that button on the remote fob being an on/off switch for the fob. Tapping the button only flashes the LED to show status. But holding that button for a time is what changes the state to either on or off. I had previously read that this button was only to verify battery status but I may be wrong about that.
Can someone please confirm this?
Does holding the button for some seconds cause that LED light to change color or flash a certain way to indicate possibly on/off?

That would be great if that button on the fob were to turn it on/off.

BTW- I do know the range/distance of the AK 550 fob is really REALLY far!
I test "sat" on one at a dealer in Lafayette and talked with the owner. I had the owner help me test the distance the fob can be away from the AK and still turn it on.
We discovered that if the fob were within 45-50 ft from the scooter I could still turn on the AK 550 allowing me to start it, open the seat and gas cover, and do anything else for which power needs to be on. Turning the fob off would be a big help. If I cannot turn it off I have another solution... and that is to keep the fob in a Faraday pouch made for remote fobs like this. They work well. I have one for my newer Rav4 which has keyless start and the Faraday pouch prevents everything from working that needs the fob to work. Amazon has them for really reasonable prices.

I just tried pushing and holding the button on the fob for 2 minutes timed. The light did not stay on, blink, or change colors.

Did you guys have the bike fully off? Switch turned to the left and the red light went off?

Because if you turn it off to the right it will turn "off" but still be "unlocked"

Once the red light goes off is when the fob has to be in proximity.

Also - Ive tried a long press too...and any combinations of long presses on the fob button. Pretty sure it just checks the battery. Plus it says thats all it does in the manual.

Thats too bad :/

Not having the AK... yet... I cannot do these checks but wanted to ask in preparation of getting one. I know about turning the bike off with the control dial so the red ring of light is off. I also know that if the fob is 50+ feet away the bike will not turn on since that is the range I tested at the dealer, with the owner's help. But it would have been real nice if the fob had an off switch. I'd still use a Faraday pouch then when I get my AK. I go motorcycle camping and my bike is often close enough, like sometimes only 10 ft away or less, that if I had the AK the bike would sense the fob while in my tent. Not good if people decide to see what this attractive bike is and start playing around with it while I'm sleeping.
