After doing a buffet of oils.....

After finishing up all the odd oils in the garage (Amsoil, Rotella, Suzuki, Bel-Ray, etc.) I've settled on a case of this for both the LIKE200i and my Piaggio Liberty150i, @ $6/Qt, delivered.
Should last awhile as the Like takes less than a Qt and the Liberty @1.5 Qts. The Liberty goes a long ways between changes, I guess because it has a real spin-on filter. Neither scoot requires much $$ to run each year* - so I like to do the oil changes on the LIKE at least every 800 miles - the Liberty at @ 1500 >2000.

I think the most expensive oil I've used was the scooter specific Amsoil at $15 Qt. (off the dealer shelf) Cheapest was the Rotella at @$22 for 5 Qts.



This oil specifically mentions that it is good for 4-stroke aircooled engines....and meets all the specs in my Piaggio manual.

*most years all the scooters get is gas and oil. I'm not wealthy - but I can afford a Qt of oil....

American dealer* in Texas is my go-to for Piaggio parts. They recommend this stuff for the Liberty. I've never seen it on a shelf around here.

I typically order full synthetic 5 qt jugs from Amazon for $21-$24...seems to be the most cost effective.

I would also argue...against...the need for 4T (motorcycle specific) oil for our scoots.  Motorcycle specific oil lacks certain friction modifiers in order to keep the wet motorcycle clutch (which shares oil with the engine) from slipping. Our scooters do not have a wet clutch.

I want the slipperiest oil I can find! Since many of our motors closely resemble lawn mowers more than motorcycles......

I'm sure the reality is that whatever oil we use (conventional, synthetic, 4T motorcycle, diesel, etc.) will likely make no difference in the real world longevity or performance of our scoots...it's more theoretical than practical...and it's more about feeling good about our choices.

change it often and keep it full.....and scooter on.

this just reminded me of reading a thread where our own John Grinsel was FLAMED off the Vespa message boards for having the nerve to suggest that vespas with cvt trannies did not need motorcycle specific oil!

The thread turned kind of ugly.. but he was correct. Motors without shared sump /  wet clutches do not require motorcycle oils.

Bingo, couldn't have said it better myself.  Just keeping the oil clean regardless of the brand will work wonders for longevity.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

  So I believe my X-Town 300i ABS has a cvt transmission. Therefore it's fine to use Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil in the motor, and Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in the differential?

Yes synthetic car oils are fine. Changing it regularly is more important than the price or formulation.
