'22 Burgman's $9,000 MSRP !!
« on: October 22, 2021, 01:11:01 PM »
Figure a thousand to eighteen hundred more to get out the door, for the new 400?!

That is more than twice what I paid for a new, 2 yr old 'left-over' 2014 from a dealer (two hours distant) on an "internet special".
We did the deal by phone and emails. Had 2 colors to choose from. He delivered it to my driveway.
Suzuki scooter  sales are kinda slow in rural areas of Ohio!

Too much scooter for my needs .... but I did love the Buick ride and night riding behind those two big always-on headlights!! (I adjusted the right one to shine way down the shoulder of my rural roads)

I had 2 new Burgman 400's---ok, but pricey even then, nice ride, more buffeting with Givi Adjustable windshield than Silverwing 600, heavy, tire sensitive, Suzuki dealer network probably smaller than Honda/Yamaha but surely bigger than Kymco, hard to work on.  Rode mine to Alaska(Hyder) and east in Canada to Nova Scotia, nice features on dash.  With big scooter market dead in US now have to give credit to Suzuki for trying.

Don't know if I can call the big scooter market dead. Just sleeping. Waiting for the American rider to wake up out of their fantasy about the need to have a bulky gas tank between the knees as the criteria for "proper" riding.
That kind of pricing is why I gravitate to the AK 550 at least. No comparison in capability between those so unrealistic to compare them in a review other than on price alone.
This Burgman would win on price, but the AK wins on every single other criteria.
Of course I AM into bigger scooters. The smallest bike I've owned was my 125 Harley dual sport way back in 79-81. It was old then even. But every other bike has been 650 or bigger up to 1520cc. I'm just not ready to downsize below 500-550cc just yet. Maybe when I'm 72 I'll consider a 300-400 sized scooter but that's a few years off. Or maybe when I'm 75+ I'll possibly even go for a 150-200 cc scooter. For now I need something that costs near this Burgman but has a lot more capability. I don't totally agree that bigger is always better but I do believe in big enough to do the job with ease and in comfort.

This will be hard to sell when a Yamaha Xmax is over 3K less and the AK550 is not that much more.

Too bad there isn't much choice in that size range.  I think 300-400cc is a great size for a maxi scooter.  My Yamaha Majesty which I bought new for around $5100 OTD does everything including highway cruising pretty well.  When the time comes to replace it I'll would like to get something a bit lighter in the 3-400cc class.

Well I totally agree. I'm 77 and now own a X-Town 300. I like the AK550, but that extra weight would be too much. That's why I got rid of my Harley years ago. Anything that won't have a top speed of 65 or better won't work for me on the interstates. My X-Town fills the bill perfectly.

What is the real world cruising top end for the X-Town Mike?

Well, Suzuki has an established reputation with American riders  ...and are Japanese made.
Kymco has neither. In fact, in some circles,  Kymcos have a negative reputation. It doesn't matter that Kymco has proven itself to most owners. It has no pedigree, nor made any attempts to change its image here.
Save $$ and own one....but they don't come with bragging rights.

Hi Tromper,

Won’t presume to answer for Mike, but my ‘2019 X-Town will cruise comfortably at an indicated 75 which I suppose will be a genuine 70-ish mph?

@Stig, this is why I stick to a brand/ label which I know to be reliable and I'm able to afford easily.
Here in Italy it's more to show off, smarttalk about others failures, than to see your own NON-capabilities. It's easy to critisize on public media, because 90% of common people would not bother to check facts behind.

So, if I would ever buy a so called "European High Price Brand" cycle, I would be heavily cheated, for internals are made by indian, taiwanese, japanese or chinese manufactures.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Why do we discuss the Burgman 400? It’s no longer available in the USA.

Skipped one year. 2022 models will be shipping next month (November). It's a great bike.

All the bashing doesn't change my mind. Happy AK camper here:
