Roller Derby redux
« on: October 30, 2010, 07:32:05 PM »
So I finally go around to putting in some lighter rollers this weekend.

Went with 5 gm and will give that a shot for a week to see how I like it.  Seems like I might go up to 5.5 gm based on my first impressions, but will see how it goes through the week.

The impact wrench made it all very easy - glad I went with the el cheapo from Harbor Freight, make life much easier.

im sure you well be happy with 5 but I like 5.5 that extra .5 just gives me what I like on how I ride my scoot. it gives me some what faster take off and the top end is good.

Yeah blue, that's the issue, I want that quicker take off since I am always having to stop and start due to the roads I ride.  But I don't want to lose too much top end.

I am definitely getting that jump off the line, but after that it seems like the acceleration just isn't quite there.

Of course, I am running the stock air box so there are mods I can make to help with that.  I think next weekend I'll try the 5.5 gm weights and see if that is the 'sweet spot' for me.

im running the stock air box and on any good day with no wind I can get her up to 48 to 50.but remmber to keep air in your tires as well. if I do any more mods it would be the 70 kit .but my scoot is already old so a new scoot would be better.

I'd like to go with a new scoot as well - 2 stroke to be sure.

Wife put an end to that idea....

In any event, going with a free-flow air filter and upjetting would give me more top end, so that might be my next idea.

Then again, with winter coming, I probably don't need to be worrying about going much faster.

Probably a good thing anyway - I'd be surrounded by scooters and big screen TVs.

Still, I think I'll go order some stuff from Harbor Freight - just to show that I'm not emasculated...

Oh yeah, you need that impact wrench - and some metric impact sockets to go with it.

And I've been meaning to get a torque wrench as well...

If you live that close you can't afford not to buy some more tools.

Maybe some calipers to check and see how far those roller weights have worn down.

That's okay, I told my wife that buying a new scooter was Word's idea.

So when we all get together one day to ride, our spouses can get together and blame each other for all the money we spent on this stuff....

Except they would probably just confirm the fact that it is, indeed, us that is the real problem.

Then we wouldn't have anyone else to blame....
