non scooter related - but still 2 stroke motor!
« on: October 26, 2021, 10:59:09 PM »
got antsy today...wanted to ride but it was low 50s and really windy...thought about mowing but ground is still soggy from 2.7" of rain a few days ago...so I tackled my snowblower project. Got it up on the portable bench and started to disassemble.

There are a few rusty parts that I could either remove, grind down, soak in rust remover and repaint..or order replacements for. I ordered the replacement parts.

The rotor plates (that hold the rubber auger on), lower housing assembly (the big part), the retainer shute parts and also needed an exhaust gasket (had a thin section with small holes where it was leaking).

This is a little Toro CCR 2450, single stage, 2 stroke that I bought in the summer of '15 for $100 off Craigslist. You can't buy new 2 strokes anymore.

It uses the old Lawnboy Duraforce 141 cc motor, used by Toro in snowblowers and called the R-Tek. It's 5 hp from the factory but they also offered a higher hp version called the Snow Commander? or something like that. It had 6.5 hp. The difference is in the motor speed. 3800 rpm for the 5 hp and 4000 rpm for the 6.5 hp version. I hooked up a tach and increased engine speed...now it's 6.5hp!

When I bought it I did my usual..new belt, carb clean, new scraper bar, fuel line and filter, new augers, painted the black side belt covers, etc.. I have since replaced the scraper bar and rubber augers, again.

Great little blower. Powerful, light weight and so much easier to use than my big Ariens 2 stage blower. Cleans right down to the pavement, too.

Here are a few pics of the blower and disassembled. The piston skirt looks great looking through the exhaust port. I love the smell and sound of a 2 stroke.

Placed my online parts order..about $95 with shipping and tax. Small price to pay to keep this little beauty humming along.

@hawk, great to see you keeping yourself busy!
And its worth to maintain, why always buy new and new and new?
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I agree, Ruffus. With a little extra maintenance every few years many of these machines can be kept running almost indefinitely! Snow removal equipment typically gets used only a few hours each year (location and size of driveway dependent, of course) so they can last decades if properly cared for.

Kind of funny but I've got my little snow blower ready for the last few years only never to use it.  My neighbor bought a new fancy snow blower so I suspect my little machine will never see the light of day for years.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.
