AK550 Maintenance

I see im due for inspection of "TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS" in the AK550 maintenance schedule...

Dont actually know what that means exactly! What am i supposed to check and make sure its properly torqued?

Also not really sure how often i should blow out/replace the foam CVT/Clutch air filter...Would that be during the "CVT CLUTCH REMOVAL" inspection? I just dont see it...Unless thats included in "AIR FILTER SERVICING"

First the CVT air "Filter Wool" (as Kymco calls it). There is no clutch air filter since that is oil lubricated.
In the maintenance chart there is no mention of checking this. But in your owners manual in chap 7 on page 78 it does state to replace or clean the "Filter Wool" every 5,000 km, which is every 3,000 miles. Based on my experience with my Burgman 650 with a similar inspection period of the CVT filter it really didn't need it as often as they are saying unless you ride in some very dusty areas.


As to the "Torque Specifications" maintenance interval. I couldn't find anything on that showing what bolts to check in either the users manual or the service manual that I have. In my Burgman, as well as my CTX1300, service manual there was a diagram showing what bolts to check for this but I've never don't that check in the past on any of my bikes and have had no issues. Usually this check relates to checking if any primary bolts have become loose but if they were torqued properly to begin with they should not become loose. If this check interval is for checking ALL bolts on the bike then I can understand why it costs so much for dealer service! But I highly doubt even the dealer checks torque on everything during normal service. Likely only what they touch for the service being done. The only thing that I have is the torque charts provided in the service manual. So I have that document attached. It should come in handy anyway for any bolt or fastener on the AK 550.

Frustrating that i cant (easily) find replacement CVT "filter wool". I guess i should get used to having to work a little harder to find parts. Or maybe they'll be more available when the time comes that i need them

I haven't found just the "Filter Wool" unless that also includes the holder. Everywhere I look I only see the part that removes for the filter so I don't know if that holder has the foam incorporated in it as one part. The part number is 11350-LGC6-E00.
On my Burgman 650 the grid/holder was separate from the foam filter element so don't know if that is the same here or if it is all one piece.

When looking this up I also noticed that this parts site has the breakout for the Euro 5 version as well... but not likely the new one that was just announced at EICMA last month... yet.

they have the keyless remote controller and 2 fobs listed for $280 USD. A lot less $$$ than another owner reported directly from Kymco. If you loose or break a fob or both fobs only part number KEYLESS ASSY - 3870A-LGC6-E00 would be needed to remedy that situation.

And looking at it all now with the diagrams and so forth, i sense they are being a little hyper vigilant with the 3000 mile cleanout...ill go ahead and do it tomorrow, but i really have to imagine its not at a point of criticality. Clogged and overheating the CVT or anything

Its too bad because https://taiwanbigscootershop.com/ was where i got all my oil filter and air filters...i should have got a bunch of these too but i guess i thought about it a little late.

I paid a good deal more but MINE came with little cardboard KymCO boxes....so...i got that going for me

I dont think i realized they were just hi-flo 164 at the time...Oh well. Only money.

Took it out and cleaned it today...Like every single other thing i own, it had a couple dog hairs in it

Managed to get a LITTLE dust to blow out of it...extremely high flow air filter. Had a little plant fiber in there...a mandylion fluff

Im sure the riding environment exists where it would be necessary to blow it out every 3k miles but i cant envision the need at even 6...This was at 4,500 miles.

Other than because its pretty easy, I really cant see a need to replace it based on any number of miles, only by years of use and i can all but guarantee this "Wool" can go a few years without starting to disintegrate.

Wonder why they call it wool...

Don't own a AK 550, but saw  lately only here in my region (NE Italy) eight AK 550 with low milage on sale.
Mostly newer bikes 2020-2021 (pls see pic).
Dealers opinion under breath, "people lease" and can't effort rates anymore. Italywide lots more to see.

But to respond... I'm not surprised to hear about this. I would expect nothing less given the new 2022 Euro5 model that was just introduced at EICMA last month. I would think a lot of current owners who are able will want to sell what they have to buy this new redesigned model with cruise control, electric shield and other improvements. I see that happen over here for other bike models. Like when the New 2018 Gold Wing came out there were a lot of prior model year Gold Wings showing up for sale. I'm sure there are many other models of bikes that are being put up for sale to prepare to buy the new model AK 550 ST.
