Maybe the last great rain ride for 2021!
« on: December 10, 2021, 12:30:50 AM »
Saturday morning - Rain, 18mph winds, dark.....but w a r m 61°F at 05:30 for my ride out & fully 2 hours before sunrise.

Really looking forward to it as I enjoy riding in the rain and the dark when I am out in the country. Very very few oncoming car lights out there to deal with at that hour of the day.

Strange - we had this weather the same w/e exactly one year ago in 2020! I took the LIKE that morning. This time I'll be out with a different helmet on a different scooter.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

When I was still working I'd be commuting by bike every day there was not snow/ice on the pavement. Many times that would be either in the dark during the shorter days of the year or in the rain during all temps above freezing. I usually left home before 6:30 am and that was dark much of the year. Not as early as Tom of course. Normally I'd take the bus if it was raining and mid 30s F since that meant there could be ice on the road in some places since the temps could vary significantly from one place to another on my 13 mile ride to work. But rain never stopped me if it was warmer than 40 F. Most of my rainy rides were in the 60s F or warmer though. Kind of different riding in the rain. Challenging yet fun in a way. I've even been on my way to or back from LD travel to a camping event and had to ride through some really bad rain storms. Once was within 5 miles of a tornado without knowing until after the fact (but I did suspect since I recognized the color of the skies that signal such an event and took shelter with some other bikers).

Now I only tend to ride in rain if I'm already on a trip to a camping event and rain moves in. A few times it rained the entire ride for the day. Knowing how to handle riding in rain extends the ability to ride more.

They've increased the winds from the SSW a little and added "thunder-storms" to the forecast.
This'll be an interesting ride nearly straight into the storm.
I've 'water-proofed' my gloves - but it never lasts.

At least no tornadoes in Ohio though.
