I cut a hole myself into the plastic cover on the rear. I'm going to buy a piece of butyl rubber to cover up the hole and my hack job, but then it'll be water tight and look half way decent, too.

5 Kgs max load?  Yeah sure!  My Givi rack on my X-Town 300i says the same and it's carried up to 5x that weight with no ill effects - other than to the handling!

Would you advise others to use a drill to tap a hole through the body panel?
Could we see a photo with your lights on....the rack is not covering turn signals?
Stig

That hole needs to be a big rectangle since the entire part that you can see the 2 bolts in has to sit through it.
Look at the photo in post 2 to see how this luggage rack is well above the tail lights. I know it's not mounted in that photo but you can see that it will be above the tail lights since it will be the same level as the rear end of the existing handles.
I did consider this one due to how well it matches the design and flow of the AK. Seems as if Kymco designed it... Some pics show the bottom is stamped with "Kymco" so likely.
The price is what I balk at. At least where it is available right now.
eBay has it for $550 here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/144023937862?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28
TBS shows it out of stock but still lists it. $199 without the colored tail panel and $219 with the colored tail panel (limited choice of colors):
https://taiwanbigscootershop.com/collections/ak550/products/kymco-oem-ak550-aluminum-rear-carrier?variant=39483782824035

Those are the only places I can find it right now... except maybe AliExpress for a price somewhere in between. The pics at those linked location and the video at TBS shows why you cannot just drill a hole. Buying with the tail panel you also get a rubber insert to cover that opening.

I see what you mean....you must fit a new panel for the rack - to reach down to a solid frame point....then you fit a big rubber plug to seal it all back up!
Seems awkward.
A template is used for drilling the panel to reveal solid mounting points just below,  then, if needed - some don't -  black alum. spacers are used between the rack and the scooter's frame. Whole thing is done with holes @ size of 2 dimes. i.e. the scooter is manufactured and prepped from stock for this accessory.
Kymco could have placed mounts for the screws just beneath the plastic panel?

I would definitely advise to take more care and cut the hole much nicer than I did! Lol In the end, I don't know if it will really matter though since if you did get just the rack and not the replacement cover, then you don't get the rubber cap, so you'd still need to cover the hole to waterproof it. I plan on getting a piece of butyl rubber and gluing that over the hole which should make everything look much better.

As far as the rack covering anything, this is the factory rack so they took care to make sure everything is good to go.

....could be...
My brother used to call my Tee shots a slice.... I preferred to think of them as a precisely controlled fade.

It's an MMA reference. There was a guy named Kymbo Slice. He was from the Miami area and got his start through street fighting.

Curious to know. I haven't found any pics of the bottom side of this luggage rack to show me.
Does this luggage rack have a threaded hole just behind the rear side mounting like the stock handles have on the bottom?
Like shown in this picture?

This is what I did with that hole in mine and am wondering if the same can be done on this extended luggage rack.
