Riding safely
« on: March 20, 2022, 11:17:09 PM »
I was just out on a busy four-lane Boulevard when I passed a black motorcycle with two riders all in black. No helmets and a little red tail light about the size of an Oreo. It was one of those offset tail lights over by the right shock.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I probably saw more motorcycles out riding today than I have ever seen in one day (60's and sunny, last full day of spring break around here). Almost all were Harleys (majority were riding in large groups) and only a handful of helmets among the 60 or so bikes I saw. Then there's me, the only guy out riding a dorky looking Honda Helix with full gear.

On a side note, I did get the return biker wave from the majority of the bikes I saw. Not sure if they know I'm a scooter from a head on view..

A few years ago I was driving in my car on a rural 4-lane highway at night. There were no street lights or builds nearby so the only light was vehicle lights. I could hear the rumble of motorcycles but could not see them. After about 5 miles of travel I suddenly spotted 2 Harley riders in the left lane - totally blacked out bikes and clothing with only a small dim tail light. I feel far safer whit bright colored garb and reflective surfaces. The smaller surface area of a motorcycle makes us harder to see and identify to begin with and making the rider/bike harder to see is not ideal.

Ride safe and enjoy your life
