valve adjustmet
« on: March 28, 2022, 01:47:47 PM »
Ok...doing my first EVER valve adjustment on my 2013 DT300i with 65000 miles on it. Got up this morning and it was hard starting and once it started wouldn't stay idling. So two questions that that seem vague in my DT manual is that the "T" on the flywheel has a line next to it...do I line up the "T" or the line next to it with the cranckcase housing notch and the valve adjustment seems to be a misprint because .10mm seems WAY TOO MUCH since putting it there caused so much valve clatter. Any suggestions please?

.1 mm (one tenth of a mm) = .004 inch which is the specified valve clearance.

Put the "T" in the window, centered as best you can. This is only to check to see if the cam is in the right position.

The cam is in the right position when two circles or holes in the cam sprocket are lined up parallel to the flat surface of the head (where the cam cover seals) AND there is a circle or hole in the cam sprocket visible near the edge like the other two holes or circles. There should be a little "play" in both rocker arms and this is the clearance that should be .004" with a feeler gage.

Thank you Crossbolt, you're always a well of info and experience...I did as you said and she purrs like a kitten! Hard to believe but I actually rode this Kymco more often than I did my BMW scoot which isn't nearly as sweet as this DT. Sold the BMW because it just wasn't what I expected. Even harder to believe is that I managed to put 65000 on this Kymco and it has been such a trooper....don't know if I got lucky or what but if I can ever find another one in orange or white I'm going to get it!

Why thank you! That was fast! Dumped your Beemer fot the DT?! I would, too but never had a BMW anything. I do adore my DT300i beyond reason. Its strong, quiet personality and adequate strength has impressed me with every ride.
Glad to hear yours is purring like a "sewing machine!"
