Interesting how construction varies from country to country. Metal roofing for residential property here in the UK is unheard of, the only common use seems to be in industrial warehouse units. And even there huge sheets of preformed plastic seem more common these days.

So they quit using marsh reeds for your roofs?
Also  ....DO you folks eat English Muffins?.....
Or is that another urban myth?

I notice the difference from state to state, I ride 7 miles from New Hampshire into Maine, and suddenly, there are 3 or 4 times as many metal roofs, in Vermont, slate roofs are not uncommon

Not an urban myth. Muffins still eaten here!  Oh, and we have several thatched roofs in my village! They cost roughly the same as a slate one to re-roof and last up to 30 years.

Yep slate or clay tiles by far the most common material here too.

I did my roof myself (with help from the wife, son in law, brother in law and grandson. And two staple guns). Pretty straight forward, not cut up and no gables

Received the two party check in the mail from my insurance co. Full amount for full tear-off roofing approved (less my $250 deductible)
Roofing company rep. coming Monday for meeting to discuss schedule.
So - the door-to-door salesmen were not trying to scam me.
They did get me a new roof - essentially for free.

This house should then be good for the life of my CVT belt.
