uxv700i engine oil /cvt
« on: April 12, 2022, 12:35:30 AM »
I warmed my 2021 uxv700 up to change engine oil. new HF147 filter in hand. My question is, Does the engine and cvt share the same oil ?  I looked in my manual. it has a lot to be desired. very lacking in information. it talks about engine oil, front and rear differential oil, but no mention on cvt.

The engine and the wet clutch share the same oil. The CVT sheaves are outside the engine/transmission block. The clutch is mounted on the shaft of the rear CVT sheaves inside the engine/transmission case. You want to make sure not to use an energy conserving oil or you may get clutch slippage. I use Mobil 0W-40. You could use Rotella 5W-40 if you wanted to. Or motorcycle oil!

If you have Oil in the CVT you have a big problem. No, No oil goes in the CVT.

Great information here....what ever oil you choose, be sure it is wet clutch compatible !!  Using an ATV rated oil will assure it is wet clutch compatible.

I used a motorcycle oil 10w40 . it didn't say anything about wet clutch compatible. hopefully I'm ok ?

Not familiar with motorcycle oils but I believe most are.  You not going to hurt anything by using oil not designed for wet clutches, however, long term use could cause the clutch to slip.
