Might be trading up to AK550
« on: May 07, 2022, 12:25:16 AM »
Pretty excited to find out my Kymco dealer now has the AK550 on their website available for ordering, I might just take my trusty 300i for one final ride down there and ride back home with one!  8)

How much trade in will a 11 year old Kymco fetch?

Maybe keep it, to ride while the AK is in for grooming each year?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Not bad advice Stig. Keep it as a wet weather ride?

I think I will keep it. Its been a great scooter and I doubt that I could ever fetch what its worth.
So far from what I`m finding out, a lot of dealers are taking 2021`s and re-badging them as the new 2022`s, and the legit 22`s have changes made to them that I want.
Mainly they`ve made it more into a super touring ride.
Gleaned from an update article~

""Adopting a sportier take on the maxi-scooter platform, the AK550 has remained unchanged ever since its launch, until now.

For the 2022 model year, Kymco is dialing things down a bit, and adopting a more touring-focused approach, at the expense of letting go of some sporty features. For staters, the bodywork has been revised to offer a tad more wind protection, lending itself to longer, more comfortable rides on the saddle. The windscreen, too, is now taller, and even features electronic adjustment—a feature found only on the top-range Tech Max variant of the Yamaha TMAX. Kymco has also taken this opportunity to revise the AK's saddle. It now gets a cushier, more ergonomic saddle that's sure to offer utmost comfort and stability on long rides.

The 2022 Kymco AK550 also boasts modern-day electronic features such as a traction control system, riding modes, and a keyless ignition system. ""

Those are ALL things that I want. I`m also understanding that the new `22 has cruise control, and apparently earlier models dont..?
Not sure exactly what they mean by "letting go of some sporty features" but I doubt they did anything to the performance that would bother me.
Besides theres a pill for that~ *aftermarket*  8)

Yep. Get the one you want.
Do the 22's have interesting new colors, or?
Prices increased?

A lot of that information I`m finding is rather skewed at this point. I`m seeing AK`s in stock that are blue, gray, and space gray or matte gray.
Kymcos website has other colors for the AK but so far none of the dealers seem to have those so maybe we wont get them in the USA.
I`m seeing prices from 8300 up to 9800.
There are no dealers in my area who have any in stock so I might have to purchase sight unseen and get one delivered, which does not bother me but if I go that route its going to take a lot of figuring in order to figure out what to order.

Rode one last month...so NOT worth 10G's....A used Suzuki 400 Burgman for far less is a better deal and better bike. In fact as much as I love my DT300i, I was expecting quite a difference in the AK500 and was sorely disappointed...but then again I was spoiled on a BMW 650 Sport for several months and it disappointed me too but was far less expensive. I think for half of what an AK500 costs you can get a really decent used Suzuki 400 or 650 Burgman or even a Honda Silverwing or possible an Xciting 500i and be far happier. Don't get me wrong, it is a step up from a DT 300, but not much of one, especially for that kind of corn! And good luck getting your dealer to order parts as I have searched across 6 states looking for a Kymco dealer to order parts for me and they are just ignoring me. I am so disappointed in Kymco USA in S.Carolina and dealers all across the southwest from Louisiana to California...so disappointed that my next scooter will not be a Kymco, ever again. I called several Suzuki and Honda dealers just in Texas and asking if they'd order some parts for my "fictitious" Burgman/Silverwing and everyone of them were ready to order whatever I needed. Thats customer service so my next one will either be a Honda Forza or Suzuki Burgman. Sadly it doesn't look like I'll be able to get my DT 300i repaired.....   >:( :-\ :( :'(

Give these guys a try for your DT300 parts they always have whatever I needed~

And thanks for your input~ I`m not entirely surprised that the Super Maxi scooters arent all they`e made up to be.
Just out of curiosity of all the ones you`ve ridden on which one seemed to be the best, cost no object? The BMW 650?

If I had unlimited funds this is the order of bikes I would get;

Yamaha T-Max 500
Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive
Honda Silverwing
BMW 650 GT/Sport (either/or)
Suzuki Burgman 400
Yamaha Majesty
Aprillia Scarabeo 500

I wouldn't even own the AK550 for what it costs....at 6000 maybe.....barely...lol
