2012 Kymco 500 UTV
« on: May 31, 2022, 09:50:05 PM »
Hello folks. New guy here, so take it easy  ;)
I bought the above from someone recently and I am starting to regret it. Not knowing much about these, I bought it for just cruising up and down the neighborhood. Well, I’m realizing either I don’t know how where to look for parts or this machine is becoming extinct. I am in search of the regulator rectifier. We are having to jump it every time we turn it off. Also, I apologize if I am posting in the wrong thread. Can someone help?

a Kymco dealer can order most any part for you...aftermarket support is sparse for our Kymcos. Do you have a local dealer?

Hey there. Thank you for your response. I have called a couple local dealers, but both can help me out.

Take your old one to a Honda dealer with parts. They can find one to match the wires, colors of wires and plug configurations. Kymco electrics are pretty much Honda electrics.

I went to Kymcopartsonline.com and looked up ATV parts...found the MXU 500 (an ATV, not a UTV but assume it shares same engine).

part #31600, reg/rectifier, $63.25

Your local dealers should be able to use this part number to order the part
MXU 500 - REG REC COMP **(4) C.2006.09.07 - 31600-LDB5-E00

The KYMCO part number is in fact: 31600-LDB5-E00. Suggested retail is 73.33 and most likely a dealer will charge freight. A dealer will need to contact Kymco to check on availability. Make sure that is the problem as electrical parts cannot be returned. Charge the battery first then load test it. Could be as simple as a bad battery.Start it and use a volt meter at the + & -, should charge at 14.5v at about 4-5K RPM. Should maintain 12.5v at idle.

@DWELDR,  pls see att link,  there I wrote about such a case.

Basically you could take any rect/regulator which has three and two prong connectors, any brand, work all the same, same performance.
If your dealer cannot deliver, check internet sources. There are lots of this stuff around.

Hey gang! Well my new rectifier can in about 2 weeks ago. Here is the run down:
Installed new rectifier and new charged battery
It ran for about a week with no issues then….
Jumped it, it ran for another 3-4 days
This entire last week the kids rode it every evening with no issues until tonight.
Had to jump it, and it ran for about 5 minutes in idle (because the kids decide to go get a snack)
Then when they got on it died within 3 minutes or so.
Tested the battery and it showed 11.25v.
I’m thinking maybe stator?

@DWELDR, since the old reg/rec. was the culprit,
it 's a big chance it demaged the battery by overcharging.
I would start:
-measuring all 3 yellow cables from stator whith it other
-1with2, 2with3, 3with1...multimeter on AC
- should show by running motor between 40 and 70 volts AC
- this OK, then reconnect this 3-pronged plug and measure on the 2-pronged plug whether you have
14-15volts DC leading to your battery at about 4000 rpms.
-all that fine, battery or groundcable dead .
