I hope you're all doing well

Listen, I still have my DT, but I've not ridden is for a couple of years or more. Mainly due to COVID but also a non biking related busted leg.

My thoughts are turning back to digging it out of the back of the shed again (I'll need to remove a ton of stuff that's accumulated on top of it first though :-).

....and it got me thinking about an electric conversion. Same sort of power (say 30 horsepower). I'm not bothered about range as long as I have 80 miles in the batteries. Theres quite lot of room on the DT for batteries if you're willing to give up the underseat storage (which I am). I think the existing CVT set up mated to an electric motor would work quite well.

Does anyone have any knowledge on electric conversions for scooters?

I reckon about a grand for the motor. Probably the same again for the batteries. Plus fitting.

Well, all in all might be 3k €. Then here in EU is the real treshold to make it streetlegal.
Technically for me as civil engineer no prob, but to jump all burocratic hurdles will be the challenge.
I have to check all parameters before really going into. MOT here sees it as a completely new developed vehicle with all tests performed.

That's interesting Rufus. In the UK, as I understand it, it's the chassis that is registered and tested etc. Making your own chassis and getting approved is a regulatory nightmare, so if your building a car from the ground up borrow an already homologated chassis (see Top Gear when they build an electric car - the Hammerhead iThrust)

.......you can install any engine you like. A change to the reg docs is fairly straightforward and a notification to your insurer is pretty much it (I think!)

Welcome back Snorvey, wondered where you’d got to* and hope the leg is getting better. Yes, an 80 mile range scooter would be of interest to me too.  Keep us posted.

The legs doing fine. It's got more metal than a DT300 though!

I think I'll need to get someone involved if I go any further with the idea. I can imagine theres a fair bit of fabrication required.
