Givi Top Case For Vintage People S 50 2009
« on: June 24, 2022, 08:55:41 PM »
Don't know why I am getting around to dressing up a 2009 Kymco People S 50  4T
Did not know if a universal Givi mounting kit would fit over the plastic rear carrier.
Took a chance on the Givi E370.
It mounted neatly and securely.   The same back carrier can be found on the Peoples S 150 and S 200 models for other late bloomers.

never too late to spruce up your scoot! One thing I did to mine was to drill a hole in the top box mounting plate so I could access my center rack mounting bolt. I've been known to strip my scoot down a time or two and this allows easy access to the bolt without having to remove my topbox mounting plate.

Nice job!!
The reason I posted on this is because I could not find any thing on the web whether or not the "Universal Mounting Kit" would attach seemlessly to the type of rack carriers you and I have.  It's good to see others are successful.
I thought I was going to have an issue with my center screw becuase under normal circumstances (for cosmetic reasons) it sits above the surface of the bikes rear body.  However when I removed this screw I found it had essentially a removable cosmetic metal collor that kept it above the surface.   I simply removed the collar which allowed the center screw to be recessed like the two side screws.   The Universal Mounting kit already had a prefabbed hole in this area so no drilling was necessary.   Yeah it was a thrill to spruce things up!   I am looking for other stuff to do but I am not interested in de-restricting.   This old bike hits 42 MPH which exceeds the speed limits of every road in my little Island town.    Maybe a tall windshield because I wear glasses and those helmets with visors are not comfortable with glasses (at least mine isn't) Maybe someone or I should start a thread on helmets for 4 eyed people.

Palm Beach Flordia.
Yes it is unusually fast.  It is not de-restricted or anything.  (at least I do not think it is.  I bought it second hand from a dealer whose first owner drove it one week before upgrading to another bike)  Not sure why it goes this fast.  I thought they can easily go to 38 even with restrictions.

PS:   How can I find out if it was de-restricted?

I wish to modify my remark that I never de-restricted the scooter.   But hear me out!
Back in 2012 while riding the bike, I heard loud noises coming from the engine/camshaft area.   My dealer said the splines of the camshaft were stripped.
The bike only had 800 miles and I posted the whole ordeal in the Peoples 50 forum.
To make a long story short my camshaft was replaced.   No one understood how the shaft was stripped and it was theorized that the 1 week owner before me had possibly tried to de-restrict the variator but then decided to return the bike to dealer for another one. It was further thought he did not torque the nut properly.  Theoritically I bought a de-restricted bike (dealer stated he had no knowledge of this).  Bottom line the whole camshaft was replaced.  I am wondering if the restriction washer was left off by the service department.   I did some reading and my understanding is that de-restricting doesn't even do a lot on a 4T.
Well anyway maybe thats why I can easily go to 38-42mph on this bike.
Thoughts?

The deristricting of the 50cc scoots is a whole ‘nother type of black magic that I know nothing about! I’m sure others here do..and it seems like a large # of posts in the 50cc section talk about derestricting.
