Two actually....

In 1968, buddy took me to Manhattan from Springfield MA to show me his new apartment....in his rusty red SAAB - with the aircooled 3 cylinder 2-stroke engine. He just mashed it all the way.....such a racket! Stopped a few times on the interstate to fiddle with something under the hood. Backwards doors. When we parked just down the way from the United Nations building - he scolded me for locking the doors when I got out.
Charlie was a counselor for a peace group - and he guided me so that I could get my draft classification changed - so I could be a combat medic in Vietnam, rather than a spear carrier. A nurse from Vietnam helped me find Charlie a few yrs ago. I called him  -  he's still in that apt!!
Not Charlie - and much nicer than his was....


CITROEN 2CV
 I loved it when someone driving one of these would stop and give me a lift all those days when I was skipping school in Paris in the 1960's.
Barn metal rippled hood, fold out windows, seats were very comfy and were built like lawn chairs!, cloth roof opened by rolling it back. Gear stick stuck straight out of the dash. Citroen even saved on wheel nuts - cutting it to just 3. These things had so much suspension travel that in the normal flat-damn-out spirited Parisians method of cornering it felt like we were tipping over. Noisy as h_ll. Great fun in skilled hands, cutting and jiving and never touching the brakes - unless you opened your eyes to see what he was doing!
I think they could tell by my clothes that I was American - and just liked showing off their French skills.





They sold parts for these in Metro stops!

1970 CUDA with very wide rear tires on chrome wheels....was the Fastest car in town...nobody could beat Him....Larry was the Guidance Counselor at our High School....I seem him on two wheels in that car! Could hear him coming two miles away....sort of....LOL....I cried when He sold it as I was a Junior in High School working at McDonalds! He sold it for $2000 and today that car is showroom condition sitting in a garage covered up by a guy who refuses to sell it even though he has had offers of tens of thousands! Who knows who will get it when He dies.....

Saab 2 strokes were not air cooled----although not real car guy----Had 2 Messerschmitts, one new,one used, KR200, 2 2CV's, last one new in last years of availability  (1985)--wonderful car, wore Moon Boots in deep winter for really warm feet, 2 Toyota 800S,Honda Beat, 7 Daihatsu Shin Max (Cost $250 a year to trade) at that time 360cc 2 strokes.  2021 bought new Chevrolet Spark, stick, real key, crank windows, $1350 in GA, Heater/AC nice. Maybe liked my new Mitsuibishi Mirage better.

Sold Kymco XTown 300i when moved from TN to WI---because no dealer here-----Probably buy Honda 125 Super Cub here when available, source necessary accessories from Thailand----83, need step thru and foot pegs, front basket and large luggage rack, windshield----had C-90 before so know what I would be getting into.  Smalll gas tank sucks.

Depends on how you define cool. Got a passenger seat ride in a 66 427 Vette. Once was enough. Had lots of uber cool cars from the 50s & 60s, both American & foreign. For me it is my 1st fast ride, just like this one.
