Did a Top Speed run this morning
« on: July 16, 2022, 01:59:50 PM »

After riding through town this morning in a light rain I decided to get on a straight and smooth country state route.....do a top speed run.
  Not a limited access highway....but at 6:20AM on a Sat...not busy!

Sitting in normal upright position. 6'3", 4X jacket across shoulders, XXXXL helmet....recent full service at 6K with new stock belt and rollers. Only non stock item is an Iridium NGK plug.

Saw a tick over 60 mph on the speedo behind that  little Piaggio fly screen. So actual @55/56mph?
In a tuck....maybe I'd see 65/66 on the speedo?
Rock steady.

I do this every couple of years.
Scoot is a 5 yr old 155cc injected Piaggio..8,585 miles from new, after break in per manual.

That speed seems about right for your 150. The best speed that I ever got on my Honda SH150 was about 65 mph. Was the bike still stable at that speed or did you have considerable wind buffeting?

Nooo....no buffering.

Even with the cheesy stock Maxxis it has always been  like riding on rails. On Angels now.
Maybe I don't give that flyscreen it's due?
Might be 2yrs before I ride over 40mph again....just prefer poking along checking out the countryside.

funny - I made a top speed run on my People S200 this morning, too! Saw an indicated 63/64 in a downhill tuck (I'm short at 5'6" and 155 lbs). Once back home I looked at my riding app and saw a gps top speed of 61.2 mph. Kind of surprised at how close my speedo was to the true speed. Not a speed I would enjoy riding at for a long period of time on this scoot.

I do top speed runs pretty frequently on my small scooters.  My bigger bikes not so much.

My Like 150i will get up to around 66 MPH indicated which is 63 GPS.  My ADV150 seems to have a 100% accurate speedo as per many radar speed signs I've ridden past.  I have seen 66 MPH sitting straight up.  The rev limiter kicks in at 68-69 MPH going down hill.  Both scooters are perfectly stable and composed at those speeds.  It would be nice if they were a bit faster but that's a limitation I am willing to accept to have a small lightweight and fun scooter.

I've had my K-Pipe (190cc motor) up to 71-72 before I backed off, with the original 125cc, top speed was 58, (63 down an 18% grade) The frame was not designed to go much above 60, by the time you hit 65, the spaghetti forks are softening, 72 was downright scary, I feel it has the capability of going close to 90 at the rate it was still accelerating.  I have since replaced the stock rear shock with a gas YSS, I have a steering damper, but not yet mounted, and looking into having my local machine shop fabricate me a fork brace as well as getting some springs for my weight, wound.

not that I am a speed freak, my preferred speed is 35-45, not even in top gear,  some destinations require riding in highway speed traffic

OK you got me thinking Stig so yesterday I tried it. Long stretch of flat road with no junctions or traffic (a closed road obviously officer) and opened her up. After about a mile it was showing 85 on the Speedo with nothing left on the throttle. I was still up above the screen so maybe a tuck could see another few mph, but 85 is all I need.  Scoot rock steady at that and engine pretty smooth.  Mirrors vibing badly though - thanks to the extenders?

I'm impressed the X-Town will hit that speed. I only have about 300 miles on mine, so I haven't pushed it yet. I have some Dr. Pulley 16gr sliders to put in after 600 miles. Hoping to get better acceleration, but if I can still get 70 or 75 for a top end, I'll be a happy camper I know she'll handle interstate speeds but want a little more zip getting on the highway. Lighter sliders did the job in my GTI300, and I'm hoping for the same with the X-Town.

I've had my People GTI 300 up to 90 MPH on the speedo, don't know how accurate that is, but I believe its pretty close. I can easily keep up with 70 to 75 MPH traffic on the Highways. It's good to be able to get out of the way of crazy/bad drivers.

Mike, my X-Town smoothed out a lot after about 3K miles! It’s a great little motor.

Wiz, I’d echo that.

With my larger Givi screen and no other mods, no top box, I  have gone up to 79 mph (verified by GPS) or close to an indicated 85 on the speedo. Flat freeway and perhaps 5 mph windspeed. That's at about 8000 rpm. I tend to flow between 6500 to 7000 rpm on the freeway.
