changed oil today using the real drain plug for once.

as the title says I changed my S200 oil today after a 29 mile ride using the actual oil drain plug, not just the oil screen plug. The drain plug is on the left side under the cvt but my 'rear drum' scoot has the rear cable in front of the plug so you either soak the cable or move it beforehand.

I unbolted the little 8 mm bolt holding a bracket which held the cable to the cvt...moved it out of the way and drained the oil.

I decided to do it this way after disassembling my motor this year. Looking at it all apart it is very obvious that you will drain the maximum amount of oil out through the proper drain plug. Only draining through the oil screen leaves a good bit of oil behind.

I only had a few sparkly bits in the oil after 228 miles...so few that I'm done worrying about them and will just ride on.

I have always used the drain plug.  I also let it drain for a couple of hours to get as much old oil out as I can.  On my Super 8 I installed a magnetic drain plug to catch iron particles.  The Like came with a magnetic drain plug from the factory.

On my ADV 150 the drain plug and filter screen are both the same bolt.

I personally always use the oil drain plug to remove the oil. I was browsing ebay and found a company that actually makes an oil filter that replaces the gy6 oil strainer. However at $45.00 I would just opt to check the strainer.

I rarely bother to check the strainer.  I have never found much of anything in the strainers.  I checked the strainer on my Like 150i for the first time around 17,000 miles.  It was perfectly clean.  Signs of engines problems would probably show up on the Magnetic drain plug first anyway.

I think the strainer is there for Major debris Items such as a chunk from a piston ring or forign objects that get caught in the oil. I myself never check it

My OCD forces me to check, but I've yet to see anything!
