Super 8 info
« on: November 19, 2010, 04:27:22 AM »
I haven't been able to get to a Kymco dealer to check one of these out yet. I'm an old motorcycle rider, but have rideen a few scooters too.I kind of zoomed in on the Super 8 after seeing pics of it and reading a little bit. I'm 5'10" and about 180. I'm thinking the Super b8 should fit me all right? One question I have is, will this scooter handle 50 mph all right? I'm thinking of a scooter that would be based on the Big Island of Hawaii in the Puna district, to use as general transportation. The main highways are 50 mph. We're mostly talking about 15 to 20 minute bursts at 50 to get to Hilo. Even then,m there is more of a backroad which could cut the time down to 5 minutes.

Due to storage of the scooter, I don't want to get one that's very big physically because of where I have to store it.

Good gas mileage is important because gas is always much more expensive there. What are some of you owners getting for gas mileage?

How about ease of maintenance?Do you have to remove lots of body panels for access?

I am also considering the Agility 125.

One very good thing is that there is a dealer on the island in Kona, but that's about two and a half hours away.
    Thanks, Jon

Hi

I have a super 8 125cc . I get about 91UK MPG, not sure in USA gallons. on level ground (ie not uphil) it can hold 50mph easily, plus a bit for overtaking. but uphill 50 will be the max. maintenence seems pretty easy on it, lots of access holes and panels. i have done 1300km in a month on mine and its great!.. bear in mind i have a 125cc, so the 150cc should be a bit better on speed, maybe a bit worse on mpg. :)

I am a Super 8 150 owner, about the same size as  you.  Previously I owned a HOnda Big Ruckus 250, and the Kymco has as much pep as the 250.  It's nice and small and easy to move around by hand, especially in a crowded garage.  If in a cramped space you can actually drag the rear wheel by holding onto the handles next to the seat, so if you are looking for ease of moving, this one will do.

Have about 1000 miles on mine, only problem I had was bad lighting coil that was replaced via warranty.  Great scooter, good quality, nice looks.

Seat was a little bit hard so I just put a  sponge rubber pad on it with bunjees.

No regrets whatsoever, good value, good quality, good looks, and 70+mpg.

As for maintenance, all I have done is oil change, no need to remove panels.  To clean the air filter you have to remove the houseing, a no-brainer.  To get to battery you have to remove one panel on floorboard.

One problem is I have not found a service manual so I am not sure where all the parts are ha ha.

I'm a new super8 150 owner, 6 foot, 250...

It holds speed very well... getting an indicated 60mph but I'm still beaking it in...

As for milage I don't know, says 70mpg and the tank holds 1.3 gallons I think soo about 100 miles per tank...

It is big but I'm comparing it to an agility 50... the 125 is the same size as the 50 i think...

It IS smaller than the new downtown 300i... that thing was huge!
Im usually on a bicycle, so for me, this thing is hauling ass!

It will fit you fine and hold 50+ mph just fine too.  Even into the winds that roll across the island.

Long way to go to the dealer but an excuse to have lunch at "Huggo's on the Beach". ;D

Well, today I called Kisers dealership in Kona on the Big Island.I asked them about prices on the Super 8, People 150, and Agility 125. They said they were having a sale on four leftover 2009 People 150s for $2295. No big sales on the other two scooters. They said out the door price would be $2390 and that is for everything. No freight and setup (also known as BS fees) charged. Here on the mainland most dealers on a unit selling for $2295 are going to hit you for another $600-$700 for these fees. And since I wouldn't then have to pay for mainland to Hilo shipping, I couldn't turn them down. They are also having a grand opening event on Saturday (since they recently moved into a new building) and are expecting some sales, so I bought a new silver 2009 People 150. They will deliver it to us on a flatbed when we are there for eight days in Feb.

So, not only do I get to look forward to eight days on the beautiful Big Island (Puna District) in our house there, but I'll have a brand new ride to boot!! I know I would have liked the Super 8 150 too, but just couldn't turn this deal down. I know these Kymcos are reliable rides and with a two year warranty too.

The hard part is I can't ride it for over a month and a half. But I bet I'll enjoy that much more.

    Jon ;D

Money talks brother...

I almost bought an agility 125 but my dealer had a sale on his 2009 S8's that dropped the price to the same level.

I hear you. I just couldn't turn down the People 150 at that price. And I won't have to pay big bucks to have it shipped. I don't think I can go wrong with this scooter.Great warranty.Very deoendable reputation.Pretty easy to work on.Kymco quality.Im sure it'll get 70+ mpg.Cruise at 50-55. I couldn't get one for this price in my home state.

My wife's SYM, also with 16 inch wheels, handles and rides very well, and I expect the People will to. I may have considered another SYM, but for two reasons.First, therev is no SYM dealer on the Big Island. Second, I don't like what I'm hearing about soeone stepping up and taking over where Carter Bros. left off. With virtually no US importer anymore, parts avaialability is going to get worse. Too bad, as the SYM line is filled with very good and soldi scooters.
