Kymco AK 550 Noodoe update just out
« on: August 08, 2022, 04:48:11 PM »
This morning I opened my Noodoe app to check and update the routes for my trip coming up Wednesday through Sunday.

As soon as I opened the phone app a notice popped up telling me the new firmware update number 5.16 is now available for my AK 550. I did select to install this update and was shown a screen with instructions how to get it installed on the bike.

The process is as simple as it can possibly be.
With the BT enabled on my phone and that instruction screen still showing (don't know if that screen has to be shown but I left it showing) I went out to my AK and turned it on.
Right away the Noodoe screen showed the update being transferred to the bike system. The instructions said the update might take 10 minutes to transfer to the bike but mine only took barely over a minute.
After the update is transferred the instructions said to turn off the bike and watch the Noodoe screen on the bike as the update is installed. I turned the knob to the RIGHT OFF position as the update was installed in the firmware. This process only took 10-15 seconds on my AK.
Then it was done.

I don't know the details about what this update contains. The phone screen said some things about improved stability and updated features. I really have not had any issues with stability and I really don't use all the features so I don't know what improvements will mean for me. I did go through what I have installed on the bike from the phone and everything is working great as it was before. I didn't notice any changes to the phone app side of the Noodoe system... yet.

Which is how an update should happen. Pity not all updates (other gizmos) do not go so smoothly!

So true!
My entire career has been in the computer industry. Mainly hardware for mainframe down to personal computer stuff but also software. More of the software in the latter years. I've seen thousands of different update installation processes. Some were easy like this one. But too many were so convoluted it would be better to throw away the old and reinstall the new with updates included. And the nasty part is that wasn't always even possible. And some updates were so complicated to the point that they would more often fail than succeed.

This one was a breeze.
