Gear up kit
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:07:40 PM »
Just a bit of advice please,

I bought a 10% gear up kit for my Super 8 and as advertised it takes away the restriction that the 139QMB engine has at about 45mph. So because these are bigger gears, how much faster would the scooter go, are we talking late 50's, late 60's??  ???

well if its a 50cc then you needto derestrict the cdi and variator...

that will only get you about 40mph indicated...

a 10% increase will get you to about 45 indicated...

you could go open filter, up jet, new weights... that will help a little too...

you're going to lose your acceleration...  harder to accelerate with the new gearing but you do eventually hit a higher top end.

I've had my scoot tuned for quite a few months now... It has Racing/ulmimited CDI and a Polini variator derestricted drive boss, it has a K&N open air filter and to compensate also has been upjetted 5 sizes to an #85, a size #90 does improve the power a bit as well. I have 5.6g rollers in there as well which seem to work a treat. With all this my Super 8 manages about 45/47mph on a flat but you can hear the gearing on overload because there too small so a gear up kit would erase this and the scoot would carry on accelerating. I realise that I will sacrifice acceleration for top end but thats ok I just want to know what the scooter would be capable of at top end, down a hill and on a flat  ???

You seem to have done a lot of tuning to you scooter but 45MPH doesnt seem quite high? Mine did 32MPH stock, I took away the rev limiter and now it does 40? So everything youve done to yours I recon you should be doing around 50 already!

Yeah its the standard gears in all 4 Stroke 139 QMA/QMB engines, the transmission gears can only get the scoot going to 45mph, thats where the restriction is. Thats why I went for this gear up kit. I take it these gears are from the Super 8 125 or something? I'd say it should be capable of the same top speed as the Super 8 125, around 60-65?

you might not have the power to push the bigger gear...

but with your upgrades I very well could be wrong.  Damn,  that sounds like a fun scoot.

Do you have any pics posted?

I'll have to take some and post them, I've added a luggage box at the back, its massive! but it fits my helmet and all my other gear in it while Im at college, a 40 mile journey each day thats why I want a bit of top end lol as its all main straight roads. I'll get some pics very shortly! ....

I do not understand why Kymco uses dashboards obviously designed in 1982.

At least they're easy to read...

Don't want to try hard to see my dials while running 60mph in the dark while doing a superman tuck.

I bought the rim tape from a local shop, they are stick on, pretty easy to do and they look nice, go well with the bike. I received my gear-up kit today, spents in total 5 hours taking off the back wheel and all the bits and bobs you need to gain access to the reduction gearing, only to find my original gears I have now are twice the size of the gear-up kit I ordered, they are tiny and do not fit in? I dont get it its a part for my bike and it doesnt fit??  ::)  :'( I dont think theres ever gonna be chance of getting s my Super 8 past the magical 48ishmph mark  :-\
