Like150 not starting… low voltage showing
« on: August 28, 2022, 08:26:59 PM »
2019 Kymco Like 150. ~2,500 miles, zero accidents. New to the forum.

One day recently my 150 would not start. Engine won’t turn over. The display monitor showed 12.4 volts (low) so the next day I bought a new battery and swapped it out. No luck, same result. I have it some time in case it needed to charge up (if that’s even a thing)… no luck, same result. Display still showing 12.4v and I’m stuck.

This is the first bike/scooter I’ve owned. I am nowhere near a gear head but I’m not afraid of turning a wrench… just want to get some input before k go disassembling anything so I don’t create more issues than I already have.

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Okay well, I’m extremely embarrassed to say it was the kill switch. I guess it got knocked and it hadnt happened before so I didn’t even think to check it….. yeah that was it. Egg on my face.

Regardless, thank you for your time and I am still a little curious about one thing.

Once the bike is started, the display reads ~14.4v (normal) but before it is started it’s still showing ~12.4 (low). This is the reason that I instantly thought it was battery related. Am I just incorrect and 12.4v pre-ignition is normal?

Don't feel too bad. We've all done it, even if not willing to admit it.
I accidentally hit the kill switch on my wife's Metropolitan scooter when I took it to fill the tank. Just happened to meet a military buddy at the gas station who was riding a Kawasaki Nomad 1500 and there I was totally unable to start that little scooter. It has a kick start lever but that didn't work either. I pushed it the mile back home and proceeded to remove all the plastic and was about to tear into the engine when I put my hand on the right grip to stand up and felt the kill switch toggle back on! OOPS! Learned my lesson.

That seems normal for the voltage display. My AK 550 shows 14.1-14.2 v when running but a few minutes after I shut it down it settles on around 12.4-12.5 v.

No worries....most of us have tripped that kill switch and given ourselves a thrill when she doesn't start!
On my LIKE200i I've tripped it with seat while refueling and with a towel when drying after a rain ride or a wash.

Feel free to post you Like150i questions under the LIKE200i section, the General or the Techical section, or any place you wish.
Mention your scooter model in your title, wherever you do post...and "they will come."

This is true for whatever model one rides here.
Sorry we don't have every model listed....but I can attest that our administrator is very responsive to significant technical issues and is quick to deal with spamming.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Glad to hear you have joined a huge club: kill switch blues!

Just for future knowledge, a lead acid battery of our type, car batteries and most computer UPS batteries will show 12.6 volts when fully charged and in fair to good condition. 12.0 volts is 50%  gone. Normal operating is between 12.0 and 12.6 no load, not charging.

Showing 12.4 before start no load is good prior to start UNLESS it drops below 9.5 volts during starting for EFI systems. Then you get no spark.
