Battery Cable Hook-Up
« on: September 26, 2022, 11:45:06 PM »
Did a real stupid thing. Unhooked the battery a year ago and have now forgotten which cable is the positive and the negative. Both cables are black. One has green tape on it and one has red. I am guessing the one with red is the positive and placed the battery in the tray but have not hooked it up yet. Going to attach a photo. Help!

Best test which cable goes to ground with a continuity light or ohmmeter.

Thanks for the response Karl. I have never worked with electrical systems so I don't know how to use a continuity light or ohmmeter. Is there a link where I can learn how to do this? I have looked online and most of the instructions show multimeters.

I have a Fluke 101 digital multimeter and a Kaiweets HT206D AC/DC clamp meter. Will either of these work?

GREEN  is negative.
RED is positive.
Just checked to confirm : 1) My 2013 LIKE200iLX

Thanks for all the help everyone. Sure enough, green was negative as I got a nice tone from my Fluke 101. No tone with the one with the red tape. I am good to go!

Yea! Two confirmations, two different methods, same answer: must be correct!

If the battery was reversed in the battery box - the red lead would reach just fine to the wrong post.
