summer weather in upstate NY
« on: November 08, 2022, 01:00:33 AM »
took advantage of the unseasonably warm day and the Wife and I took a 100 mile scooter trip. her on her vespa 150 and me on my kymco like 200. sun was out all day and 60 degrees in upstate NY. not the norm for our time of year. just one great Day!
the vespa and kymco seemed to be matched pretty well for speed so riding together works out. the kymco was a lot less money and the vespa is a little smoother and better handling. curious to see if the handling improves on the kymco when I get the michelin city grips on. going to install them when the weather gets cold and I need something to keep me busy, usually it's already here.

We have unseasonably warm days here in the UK at 14-16C, but plenty of rain too unfortunately!  Still managing to put some miles in (mainly) between the showers though.

I don't suppose I'll ever get the chance - but would love to ride a newer Vespa 150 - to compare the way it rides to other scooters I've owned.  - suspension, engine smoothness, power, etc. "Handling"....at my normal cruising speeds - don't know that handling is an issue!
Vespa dealer near me closed shop a few years ago - right after I bought my Piaggio Liberty from them!....and they only offered test rides on the BV350's they were having trouble selling.

Surely - there is more to a Vespa than the impossible to repair metal body? (somebody once said it'd be as easy as repairing the nose of a Karman Ghia)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Is "upstate New York" anywhere near Elmira? I have been there and around some of that area and it looks ideal for two-wheel touring!
It was nearly 80°F here in west TN today as I scooted to errands....ah, bliss!

The first scooter for me was a 2016 Vespa Sprint 150. Have to say it was great looking, it felt great in the twisties, The suspension is very limited, Vespa does not give the amount of suspension travel. From the Vespa I bought a Burgman 200, then a Honda ADV 150, and now I have the Downtown 300i. The ADV has the best suspension of the bunch. People brag about the fit and quality of the Vespa. Personally the Downtown seems the best put together.

Those primary colour Vespas are really nice looking though, you have to admit Art.

for anyone asking about the vespa handling and other questions, the difference is not great but you can tell. I still think the Kymco is the best deal but I do ride both. the new Vespa 150 is now getting super expense and I'm lucky because 2 years ago I bought the 2016 Vespa for 2600.00 with only 800 miles. so I do get to do comparisons on them. Makes for great fun
