Anyone else leave their seat unlocked & have a hidden key?
« on: November 28, 2022, 07:27:13 PM »
I never found the need to lock my scooter seat.
Sure - if I have an 'off' I'll be picking up MoonPies and a couple of tools - but I figure I'll have other concerns if that happens.

My Piaggio seat takes a right shove to latch it - so it's almost never latched - has a fancy electric button to activate it on the headset....which I use so rarely that I forget it's there!
There's a back-up manual lever behind the locked glove box door.

The LIKE200i seat latch works fine - and has a very short cable since the side panel key hole is near the latch. I don't often ensure that the seat is latched. I've rigged a line to use for emergencies.

I've secured a key on each scooter - accessible with the mini Swiss knife always in my pocket.
Scared myself one very cold morning miles from home - when I was ready to head out.
I had dropped my key inside my rain pants....not in my pants pocket. The rain pants have an elastic cuff - which is where I found them!
Went home and hid a spare key on the scoot!

I do have my spare fob on the AK... but I keep it in the storage box under the seat in a RFID pouch so the bike doesn't "see" it. The seat does latch very nicely and solidly and since the hinge is at the rear of the seat and latch is at the front it will latch every time I sit on it. I do have an emergency latch release cable hidden on the bike for that just in case situation so I don't need a key or wireless fob to open it.

Probably a good idea for regular riders. I only ride my scoot out for a ride and then back home. I almost never stop at a destination…just ride out and back without stopping or turning off scoot, so extra key is not a concern for me.

Now, if I commuted to work on a scoot you can be sure I’d keep a spare..somewhere.

True story...
3 of us were playing golf....I drove us in my Subaru
Locked the keys in the car.
"
"Don't you just live over there behind that treeline?"

"Yes, but there is a river between us and those trees."
Barry. our leader, said "pshaw!, how deep could it be this time of year!?"
3 twentysomethings holding golf bags over their heads...fording a river in Dayton...
well Barry old boy...
.it's a damsight deeper than you thought!!
No cellphones in those days....a pic would have been a keepsake!

My seat will latch when sat on, if not already latched. I have it on my list to add a remote latch release this off-season. Unlike some others on this site, when the local road crew spreads out salt to battle the snow, I stop riding. Will get the scooter back out when the spring rains wash the salt off the roads.
