what's a DTX 360 - 320 ?
« on: February 16, 2023, 06:29:53 PM »
Help me out here Neil,
I click on DTX360 and it drops down to images of a DTX320 and aDTX125.
IS it a 360CC scooter, or what?

Wonder what tires are fitted?
Stig

EDIT: I found the specs. A 320cc....so "360" is .....? Like my 163cc LIKE200i!

It's a head scratcher isn't it Tom?  As far as I can tell the 360 in the title is the generic model identifier covering both the 125 & 320 cc variants and both capacities have DTX360 emblazoned on the flank.

The tyres are the exact same size as my X-Town at 120/80-14 Front and 150/70-13 Rear, as for brand, here in the UK they're the standard semi knobblies, but none of the reviews I've read say who makes them - probably Maxxis or Kenda?  Likely I'll ditch them for Michelin City Grip 2s anyway before they're shot if they are as poor as the original Kenda's on the X-Town.

Like the reviews these guys do:  https://scooterlab.uk/first-rides-kymco-ionex-cv3-550-dtx-360-ak550-review/

Nightmare afternoon as that question was exactly the one posed by my insurance company!  They do not have the model listed and as a result refused to quote me for it.  Aargh!  Over an hour on line trying different companies and drawing a blank everywhere.

Finally had BIBA* recommended to me by one M/C Insurance company as "they're the ones we use whenever we have a problem locating models"  Called them and what a surprise, not on their model drop down list either.  They, however, then took all the relevant details and custom built a quote for me.  Phew.  Not the cheapest by any means, but at least I'm covered.  Decided to take it out on the monthly deal in the hope I can cancel if ever my own company finally get the DTX320 listed on their database.

And then when you look at the kymco 2023 model year down load they list the DTX as either a 350 or a 125. The engine for the 350 is 320 cc.  No matter it looks like a great scooter.  Those tires might be a good rain tire

I'm always surprised to see a 125cc motor offered in these big maxi scooters. I can't imagine how that little motor would pull all that weight? I'm sure it is for tax reasons in various markets...but, still..wow...

That's the beauty of the CVT. You can bet that 125 is using it's RPM's  right from the start, and probably feels pretty quick.  It's the top speed that is limited. I think the tiered license is a good idea. Helps build experience.

Think Art has hit the nail on the head Hawk, more to do with licensing requirements in some markets?  Here in the UK for example, new riders have to pass a test on a machine up to 125cc to gain an A2 licence which (roughly) covers them up to 600cc. They then need to take a further test to gain their unlimited licence.

Now guys, mirrors.  Like the look of them with the scaffolding arms, BUT do they give a clear view behind?  No.

I'll try a bit more adjusting on my next ride, but I fear extenders or new mirrors may well be on the cards!  First 20 mile "let's see what it's like" ride today and I must say I'm quite impressed with the engine.  I can really notice those extra 50cc's, even at running in speeds.  Comfort generally good with a firmer seat than the X-Town, hope it proves more comfortable on longer rides.  I'll let you know.

I hope you'll find a solution to the too short  mirrors - other than those ugly billet generic extenders!
But sometimes there are no options out there.
Of my 4 scooters - I found good solutions for 'visible' mirrors for only 2 of them.
Glad you're enjoying your new scooter🙂

Make sure the mirror arm is pointed 90 degrees from the midline of the scooter for the maximum view past the rider.

Bummer. I kind of like their look.  Hope you can find some simple mount extensions.   https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bike-master-mirror-extensions
