I think a tiered license would help some. Forces the new rider to get experience.

Interesting read, thanks Karl.  We have the tiered licence approach here in the UK Art and whilst it's a pain for new riders, I think it will have saved lives.  No substitute for good training!

Fog so heavy that I can't be seen, and a sun so low I can't see -- are the two reasons I will not ride. Full stop.
I park and wait it out.....or return straight home.

I also have a massive advantage over the vast majority of riders - because of the time of day I choose to ride. It is not by chance.
I haven't ridden any other time of the day, in years - since I stopped commuting home from work.

It is not for everyone....but I've no intention of changing.

As you say Stig, for those of us not tied into a commute any more, rides become largely a matter of choice. If prevailing conditions are lousy, I’ll defer my ride. It’s supposed to be enjoyable these days and I don’t consider that I have anything left to prove on 2 wheels!  If that keeps me safer, then that’s a bonus.
