70°F ~ spent the morning cleaning the LIKE, ACF-50
« on: February 23, 2023, 11:12:10 PM »

Disassembled the muffler covers....
Warmed the scoot a bit - then cleaned with orange degreaser and brushes. Washed with soapy hot water & brushes. Clear water rinse - then warmed to dry. After a clean the muffler not showing any rust, so no painting this time.

Rear tire hugger support showing rust, so unbolted it, placed newspaper behind it and repainted with rattle can.

Applied ACF-50 corrosion protector all over and under with rags and brush, reassembled the muffler. Not the aluminum rims - but the axle nuts get treated with ACF-50, & belt cover bolts, fill & drain bolts, etc. Pretty much any nut and bolt I can reach - PLUS the side and center stands!

While i'm down there I like to use the camera to check my brake pads. Rears look good for another decade, fronts maybe later this summer.*
I also loosen and retighten the hex-head caliper pins to insure they're never frozen when I need them.

I put it to bed clean.....but going to be smelly that 1st ride!

I do not ride on dry salty roads after a snow - I wait for a rain to wash the roads - but I do ride year around here in Ohio.

*I've had a set of fr. and rr. Kymco brake pads in the house since 2013 --- waiting.....crazy brakes don't wear out, not does the air-filter get dirty!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Stig, for someone not obsessed with detailing their scooter...yours is amazingly clean and so well preserved for a year 'round daily driver! If you think about the conditions in which you ride...and the occasional cleanings your scoot gets...wow. You may have hit on a sweet spot over not obsessing over the scoot's cleanliness...but doing it regularly enough...to keep it in showroom condition.

That ACF50 has to be a lifesaver for all the potentially rusty metal bits. A bath in that? Rust doesn't have a chance! Nice work and thanks for the pics.

+1 Hawk

As for those brake pads Stig, at your customary speeds, they’re not gonna get stressed anytime soon! Unlike tyres they’re not going to go off so don’t you stress either!
Regards & ride safe,
Neil
