Soon springtime valve adj. due, so new tool!

Gathering new gaskets and NGK's, and just purchased a new tool to make things easier.



Robot using the tool on same Piaggio 155cc engine.




I will be doing a valve adjustment on both scooters in a few days. And while I'm in there will replace the 2 gaskets on the Liberty and one on the LIKE....and spin a new Iridium NGK into both.

The LIKE is somewhat easier because of all the room my hands have, and the panels are few & easy to remove. But the Liberty is only a little tighter. The 1st time it took an hour to wrestle a hose clip off in tight quarters on the Liberty's engine!
there's always something....that first time, isn't there!

I remove the seat and under-bucket as a unit on both for better lighting and ergo's etc.

I do the valves yearly - regardless of mileage. It's probably more of a bonding thing -

while I'm at it, will replace these exhaust nuts as well. ACF-50 inspection noted I could use a pair of fresh ones before next tire change

I have found valves out of specs.  Last time I checked My Like 150i the exhaust valves had tightened from .004 to .002.  That was over the course of 10,000 miles.  The valves are supposed to be checked every 5,000 miles but I generally double the recommended interval and have never had any issues with that.  Previous scooters and motorcycles have also been out of spec and needed adjustment.

Yeah, a little snug every now and then. Especially on that first one at 600 miles!!

I bought a box of shims for the Honda - guy used 2 and sold the rest - cheap! ebay. Glad I never had to do that valve adjustment - feller' needed a GED to do the math on 'em! Burgman, never got enough miles on it.
I got so in the habit with my VWs - that I just carried on with my scooters!

Folks go 'round & around on the exhaust setting.
Old guns have their reasoning.
Me, I just follow the sticker under the seat. I checked that with the tech adviser by calling Piaggio/USA HQ in NYC, on Park Ave! He checked and called me back! "go with the sticker". I do the valves often - so, .....

I also just like getting the seat off and going in there for a 'look-around' and cleaning things!
