diy bar ends
« on: April 19, 2023, 01:57:08 AM »
Not sure if this is the correct section, but I made a diy bar end to mount a gopro style action camera to my People 150, the kind with m8x1.25 bar end bolts.
I did a blog post here:
https://selfsufficiencyindex.wordpress.com/2023/04/19/diy-scooter-bar-end/

And the final result is attached.

that's pretty slick! It's tough to find places to mount devices on many of our scoots..that's very creative.

Nice bespoke solution Bosticer. How about vibration, is that an issue?

Vibration is pretty okay, depending on the road condition mainly.
I tried it out today and was satisfied with the performance.
This is an off brand (aldi) gopro-type camera, with their mounting kit.
I wasnt' expecting perfect, but thought it was fine.
Here's me riding in western NC on some backroads.

Its on the left handlebar, so its not centered like a lot of folks have on their helmets, so it makes me look like I'm riding right on the center line. I may be a bit too close, but not excessively.  You also miss out a little on what's on the right side of the road, but it'll do for most of what I need.
(I'm still pretty new to riding, but am having fun)

I just can't understand why anyone would enjoy watching the asphalt flying by for 10 or more minutes or even 2 or 3 minutes. There are thousands of videos on Youtube like this. With the Insta360 camera and an 8 foot stick you will have YOU, the Bike, the road and whatever scenery all in the video. You can have the camera out to the side, to the rear or out in front of you. Here is a link for an example....

Here is my video from 2 years ago on my KTM 390 Duke riding through town.....I like the video but it is not good for someone else watching it.....boring mostly....just me in the shot....so for me I would rather have someone Filming me.....

Some videos can be fun to watch to see scenery in a different part of the country/ different country or a specific sight. I was hoping to see still pictures of the scooter itself. The P150 is not seen around here.

Well, I paid $600 for the bike. Paying another 500 for the camera seems a bit much.
I get that the views are more dynamic on that other camera, and honestly, I may get it for a project I’m working on, but the views in WNC are pretty great just riding, so a handlebar cam is pretty cool for a dude who just has his endorsement for like 4 months.

Well, here she is, humble as she is.
I’m Making her into a DoorDash delivery bike, so I’ve added a homemade tail box that should accommodate most of what I’d be delivering.

It’s about 17lbs. I removed the stock rack and used the mounting holes with three sections of m8x1.25 threaded rod To connect  the base to the bike. I believe the base is 5/8 plywood.
The side walls are 1/2” plywood. The top skin is 1/8” plywood with fiberglass/resin for some extra strength and waterproofing.

Once carrying a load, I bet it'll make the handling, ahem, interesting!
