Biggest selling point for Kymco in the USA?
« on: April 21, 2023, 03:14:28 PM »
To my mind it is the fact that they are well built, reliable and rarely need complicated servicing.
So....the fact that there is so little factory support in this country is a moot point for a lot of us owners.....which we come to understand after the purchase. Lack of factory support certainly isn't a selling point up front!

Yes it is kind of hard on dealer mechanics when they don't have a log of service requests.  I recently took a look at my CVT drive on my Downtown, everything looked better than OK. Not even all that dirty inside after 5200 miles.

That's what I was realizing before I bought my AK.
I find I tend to do a bit more investigating of things before I buy bigger items. To the point that I end up teaching the dealers I visit about some of the features included on the machines. Did that with my Honda dealer when I was about to buy my CTX1300, and also a few Kymco dealers I visited when I was looking at the AK.

my local dealer is multi-brand Hon/Yam/Kaw/Suz/Polaris & Kymco. I know the service dept and owner very well. My info is that Polaris returns for warranty & repairs most often, and Kymco least often. I own 3 Kymcos, 2 Suzukis, a Yamaha and a Honda snowblower, and a Honda GX160 engine in my little tow behind backhoe, and a Tecumseh powered generator that I take there for service

Here in the UK, support from KymcoUK has, in my experience, been first class.  Both with my X-Town and now with my DTX360, warranty work has been undertaken without demur and whilst maybe not as quickly as this impatient rider would wish; I do understand the delays when parts have to be shipped in from abroad.

I know this is not your experience in the USA.
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

it really depends on the dealer more than KymcoNA, other than waiting for parts at the peak of covid, I have had excellent service

Waiting months for a simple fuel pump that should be a shelf item with no communication from Kymco even to the dealer is a deal breaker for me. I like my Kymco, it will still be the last one.

Yes, well built and reliable. 2 year warranty was the big selling point but with so few dealers in the US actually honoring the warranty it was a moot point.

A little more reliability in starting would be nice on some models but we will have to solve that one....

No, not even close. It's more like the in tank pumps you see on cars , as I recall.

Is the 2012 500 Xciting, fuel injected or carburetor  ?

last Wednesday, I dropped my UXV450i off at the dealer, hopefully for a short time only, they had it nearly 3 months a couple years ago, waiting for parts, and ended up getting generic non Kymco parts from Graingers, they also tried getting Arctic Cat Prowler parts as well as they are just a rebadged Kymco.

4wd is out, likely needs CV joints click click click

While I was there, I was at parts counter ordering a new battery for my AK550, they couldn't find the Yuasa # also ordered a 5 gallon pail of VP 50:1 premix for my chainsaw, while I was there, the owner heard my voice and came out to talk to me. He's sold a dozen AK550s at his other dealership and expects to sell another dozen by the end of the month. I made him aware of the parasitic drain issue that AKs seem to have, he's bound to make some noise with Kymco. He doesn't sell a lot of scooters at his dealership local to me, but a few, the local dealership sells more 4wheel ATVs & SxSs and fewer 2wheel, and vice versa at the other location.
