Your top 3 reasons for riding?
« on: April 22, 2023, 12:48:20 PM »
In your opinion what are the top 3 advantages of riding a scooter / motorcycle?

Mine would be the mood lifting mental health benefits, the feeling of freedom and the people you meet along the way.  Hey without riding I'd never have got involved in this forum!

The freedom of riding (I rode thru the lock-downs).

The sunrises & fresh smells every morning...

and the friendly village at my destination.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

-Fun (closest thing to having your own roller coaster, and you control how fast and for how long)
-Economical transportation
-Mind exercise
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

-Economical transportation

maybe..... so far, my 2 wheel experience has been mid-range, the most economical vehicle I  ever owned, was a 1982 BMW 320i, cost of ownership, insurance, tires, maintenance, repairs & fuel, was a mere 23¢/mile, compared to a 1999 SV650, just over 35¢/mile. My 2002 Silverado is under 40¢

I haven't put enuf miles on my K-Pipe or AK-550 to make a valid comparison yet, the #1 expense on the SV was TIRES, I spent nearly $3500 one year.

I do it for enjoyment. While everyone is driving their gas guzzling SUV's and trucks Here I am only filling up for $4.00. Not to mention that I feel more one with Nature and the road instead of traveling in an aluminium box. One thing I do not enjoy is the itiots on the road who have no respect for scooter drivers and drive past me at three times the speed limit.

It's changed over the years or better, reasons added as I matured. Now that I have reached the far end of the trail it is a reliving why I started in the first place!

Since not many of travelers use two wheels, it is a gift to ride successfully. Sort of like flying only more practical and way cheaper!

Sorry, dear friends, I cannot even begin to pin it down to just three reasons and cannot even pick out one!

On the money Karl.  And don't you just find that as you throw a leg over the bike / scooter, the years just fall away and you're back to being that young kid you once were all over again?  (...but with the wisdom & skills of all the intervening years to keep you safe hopefully!)

The first reason for me is the physical act of controlling and riding a powered two wheeler.  The sensations of the ride.  The satisfaction of making the bike do what I want and the feel of its response.  The adrenaline rush of pushing to the limits and getting away with it.  The rush of going fast.  The adrenaline rush part is getting less and less as I get older but I still feel it once in a while.  There is still nothing better than carving up a twisty mountain road.

Second is the places my bikes take me.  The beautiful scenery which just isn't as beautiful when viewed from inside a cage.  The excitement of exploring places I haven't been before.  Not knowing what is around the next curve or over the next hill.

Third is the people I meet while riding.  Most of my friends are people I have ridden with.  As I get older the people become more important.  My most fun rides these days are rides I do with my friends.  I am old enough that many of my riding friends have passed away so maybe that makes me appreciate the ones I still have more.  I tend to divide all the people in the world into two groups.  Those who ride and those who don't.  I just have more in common with those who do.
I Ride Therefore I Am

After just over a week off (on holiday) and despite my first two rides being in the rain, I still just love it!

for me it is...soul cleansing...it's like taking a deep breath, slowly exhaling...and smiling. The feel of the motion, the wind (hopefully warm breeze) and the smells. The sensing of the temperature differences as you go up and down hills..all your problems go away while you're riding.
