2018 Kymco UXV 500i engine blown

Bought a 2018 UXV 500i knowing it wasn't running, for $500. Hoping it would be a cheap fix, however, had a guy look at it and he said engine was ran very low on oil and is ruined. He can't find a new engine and said rebuilding this engine is not possible because "it's all aluminum" and will not last very long even if he totally rebuilt it. He said best thing to do is junk it. Seems kind of a shame because it looks really nice. What would you guys all do?  Junk it, or find someone else willing to work on it ? Thanks?

With labor rates banging around  $100+ an hour, might be worth taking a shot at learning to rebuild it yourself.
Or, keep asking around,  maybe some guy can get it running for a few hundred dollars.

Find out why he doesn't want to rebuild it??  How bad is it...that is the key question??  I would shop around and try to find an engine...not gonna be easy to find!!

Probably the worse things are piston and cylinder. Carefull cleaning and inspection of all other parts most likely reveal no damage. A good machine shop could put a sleeve in that cylinder for a reasonable amount. Piston and rings may have aftermarket sources if replacements not available from Kymco.

You still would be under whatever replacement cost. Some Polaris models are made by Kymco. Or is it Arctic Cat? Or both?

I might have an engine, I believe the 500 and 450i share the same engine, but have a different frame ?

my frame is broke for the 2nd time, currently getting an estimate for repair, depending on estimate, I may sell my 450i for parts

The 500i is a larger engine, not the same. May work though? It is Arctic Cat that Kymco also makes. Pretty sure it is the 500 and down models last I checked. They also made the 300 and youth 90 for Kawasaki. Not sure if they still do! There 500, Arctic Cat, is the same engine as the 450i.

I will step out on a limb here on the rebuild! All aluminum? I wouldn't want this guy to fix my push mower. I would be absolutely shocked to find out that Kymco has been making these units without a steel cylinder liner. Would Kawasaki and Arctic Cat let Kymco make units for them with an all-aluminum cylinder without a steel liner? Would anyone?

The "Tracker" brand from Bass Pro uses a 450i model for one if there machines, with cosmetic changes, not sure about the other models.

I think you are correct Airshot. The Tracker also uses the 450 Kymco motor. May build the whole thing.
