been looking at the engine and noticed the fuel injector wiring has electrical tape and a zip tie right where the wiring goes into the injector. It doesn't appear to be something the factory would do. Is it possible the injector has been changed with only 616 miles on it when I bought it??
To check spray on the injector, do I just pull it out and crank the bike with injector pointed into a container?
Can an injector be cleaned by a shade tree mechanic like me?
Is there a substitute injector off ebay? If not where is best place to source a Kymco injector?
I get discouraged since problems seem to be cropping up everywhere. For example, yesterday after I swapped the weak sparking iridium plug for the original sooty plug, it started right up. Started later in the day and it ran poorly, missing, etc. Same thing this morning when I started it. After revving a few times and holding the throttle open for a few seconds, it settled down to a reasonable idle. I went and bought a new ngk cr7hsa plug and installed it. Started and idled pretty good. That's where it sits right now.
So, after all the work and purchase of belt, sliders, iridium plug, I'm actually back to where I started. I reinstalled the old belt, and rollers.
I set the valves, properly I think since I've done the job many times. I replaced the fuel pump hose and replaced the fuel gauge sending unit. I pulled and replaced the variator several times. I took the clutch apart and cleaned/regreased it. When it's running, it does the original 51mph which I determined via gps is really 55mph. At 250lbs, I guess I can live with that. I'm still after it but don't want to put another $300 or so for injector and throttle body not knowing if that fixes it. Wish I could just put a carb on it and be done with it all.
